A Valentine’s Craft {in burlap and ruffles}

It’s that time of year again…

Valentine’s Day
is upon us and I’m sharing a
Ruffle & Burlap Embellished Valentine’s
decor plate/wall hanging with you
and showing you how you can make one too.

If you’re anything like me, chances are,
you’re still broke after Christmas.
(and in my case, vacation too. I’m double broke. lol)
Now worries though…
It’s super cheap and easy.

My specialty

Thanks to the Dollar Tree, some scrappy this & that’s
and a few minutes of our time, we can still have some cute Valentine’s decor for our homes!

Valentine’s Day is a full month away so there is plenty of time for you to craft your little hearts out if you want to make this,
or some version of it.

So gather up your supplies and meet me back here if you would like a step-by-step tutorial on making your own Valentine’s Plate.

You Will Need;

A Dollar Tree Plate
Mod Podge
Foam Brush (easy, cheap, throw away when done with it.)
Glue Gun
Scissors
Burlap
Fabric in color/pattern of choice
Ribbon in color of choice
Felt in color of choice

Step One;

Cut a burlap circle.

Easy tip; Flip your plate over, lay your burlap on the back side and rub some chalk along the burlap for a quick outline of a circle. *Cut along line.

*Does not need to be perfect as it will be covered with ribbon later.

Step Two;

Spread a thin amount of Mod Podge on the front, indented circle section of your plate. Lay burlap on top and smooth. Secure edges with a layer of Mod Podge on top, outer edge of burlap.

Step Three;

Layer your ribbon on top of your wider, secondary ribbon or fabric strips. (either is fine) I used red & white checked fabric, that I cut into strips because I had it on hand. I added the pretty *white ribbon on top.

*The white ribbon is a recent purchase from Joann’s if you want the same kind.

Step Four;

Next, begin gluing the center of your fabric/ribbon piece onto the center line between the burlap and the plate. Glue down a spot to begin, then bump up a little hump and glue another section down, this will create a “ruffled” look. Glue, bump up, glue, bump up… and continue until you have encircled the entire plate.

Step Five;

Embellish as desired. I added a few felt flowers.

They are ultra simple to make.

I made some leaves too. Those are just burlap cut out in a leaf shape, edged with a bead of glue and then topped of with some jute twine. The glue dries fast and I need both hands, so no pictures of this step. I need to grow another arm. LOL. Sorry!
