Hey-Hey Foxy Friends!
Sharing a budget project today.
My $5 Coffee Sack Chair Makeover!
Mr. Foxy helped on this one. The extra set of hands was pretty “handy”!
What? Too cheesy?
Anyhow, I started on my own, but the giant stapler barley fit in my hands, and it kept jamming.
I may or may not have called it a piece of ____. (you can use your imagination)
So my hubby kindly came and gave me a hand.
Teamwork. Gotta love it.
I lined up the seam of the bag to make it look like an embellished trim.
Totally cool cheat!
Then I used this numbered side of the bag as my design accent.
Totally cool cheat. #2.
I was going to stencil something, but I thought it looked pretty good as-is.
So I left it alone!
In a nutshell. I slipped the chair pad in the bag to assess the placement.
Flipped it over. Sliced it open. Stapled the front section with the seam.
Then cut excess fabric and proceeded to (have Jim) staple away.
The bag was a gift Jim picked up for me last Summer when the guys went on their Manly-Men road trip! He is a good “picker”!!
The coffee sack was 100% Hemp. I love that it has the “Burlap Vibe” but it’s much softer!
On the actual chair frame, I used Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint in Magnolia
and Maison Blanche Antiquing Wax in Clear.
I might add a little dry brush accenting, or maybe some Organza. I have not decided. Thoughts? Sometimes, I’m afraid to add more for fear it’ll go from “Just fine. To, I should have stopped while I was ahead!”
So I held off. Sometimes, I have to really let things roll around before I make a move.
Before I forget, have you heard about Simply The Best?
Sorry to interrupt, but I’m pretty excited!!
Okay now, back to that chair…
I liked the original black very much. It had a long happy life.
But, it had been black for over 10 years and I was tired of it
I’ve got an odd set of 5?
I know.
So I figured I’d practice on this one.
I discovered painting chairs is a real pain. So far, the other 4 are safe.
and I’m out of coffee sacks.

Oh wow! I love it! This is one of the best mini-makeovers I’ve seen in awhile! And how you used the seam as trim is brilliant. Pinned & will be sharing on FB this week!

That’s not cheating … that’s just sheer talent and vision, girl! I love it! The trim is perfect, too! Hmmmm … sounds like your hubs needs to go on another “manly men” road trip to gather more coffee sacks for you! 🙂
Audrey Zumwalt says
Nicely done Shannon … the cover looks so pretty. I like the trim and the numbered side. The other side would have been so busy.

Thanks Audrey! Yes, the other side had a ugly print! Nothing we would want to decorate with 😉

Should I look for one for you Kristin? I could always ship it!!

Loving the seam used as trim and the fact that you used the numbers instead of all the printing. Just call me simple. Oh and the stapler, I had a piece of ______________ that I replaced with an electric one, that helps so much. I also have one to hook up to the air compressor, I’m slightly intimidated by it. I’m also LAZY. I would have to drag the chair downstairs and out to the garage or drag the compressor in and upstairs. TOO much like work.

That looks fantastic Shannon!! Love it! 🙂

Thanks Vanessa, you know I love the simple stuff 😉

Love it, pinning and on the search for some bags! You’re so right about painting chairs! I try to avoid them 😉 One of the most used and best purchases I ever made is my air nailer/stapler. Treat yourself to one!

What an adorable chair!! Love how you made use of the grain sack with its own trim and print. A lot of patience is needed to paint chairs.

So I have discovered (that painting chairs patience thing!) Thanks for the sweet comment (:
Ada (new york) says
It looks GREAT! I luv it just the way it is. I too tend to fear the “yikes, I should had stopped before” syndrome. However, many times ‘less is more’, right. I luv it!
Cynthia says
So clever to cheat with that seam!! This is great and would love some of those to do a bunch of chairs.
