DIY a Glass Vase into a Cloche

Today, I’m sharing with you how turn a vase, into a cloche
… and make it pretty with Plaid’s new Martha Stewart glass paint.
 
Recently, I was fortunate enough to get to sample some of Plaid’s Martha Stewart glass paint and tool collection.
I was so excited about what I received that I would have popped if I didn’t get to show you, so I made a short video (my first).  Me, unpacking my Martha Stewart for Plaid booty!

I really wanted to do something extra special to share with you all. I think this cloche makes for a pretty, everyday decor item as well as a craft that anyone could duplicate.Below are the exact Martha Stewart for Plaid items I used to create the design on my DIY cloche.
I started with an inexpensive, glass vase.
This one was under $5.00
(you know I am totally thrifty!)
I cleaned it with mild soap and water and then ensured that it was completely dry.

I skipped the rubbing alcohol step.
Ooh… I’m in troub-le.
Actually, I just didn’t have any.

I would suggest you follow directions though.
Next, I smoothed the self clinging silkscreen onto my glass surface. Depending on the surface you are working on, you can use your hands, a paper towel or one of the squeegee tools to get any wrinkles or air bubbles out.

These are amazing to work with.
I was a little nervous. I didn’t need to be! These have a little “stick” to them so they don’t move around while you are trying to apply your paint. I would buy these in a heartbeat.

Bonus! These are washable.
Just like new with a little soap and water.
I washed it between each section, because you use
so little paint, the thin layer dries quickly.
I used the little foam tipped dauber tool to work the paint into the silkscreen.
It’s very smooth and velvety.
Plus it’s contoured to fit your fingers.
Next I used this flexible, long handle
squeegee tool to push the paint in and get any excess off the silkscreen before I gently pulled it back. These have a really cool feature. They are lightly grippy, so your fingers are fixed firm and you are really in control.

No accidental slip-ups with these!
Peel it back and look at what you did!
I was very pleasantly surprised.
I thought I would have to practice on a few things before I could get a project worthy of sharing.
Nope.
This stuff is Shannon proof!
Martha Stewart & Plaid get my seal of approval. Definitely beginner friendly!

The entire line came across as

I could see a multitude of possibilities limited only by your imagination.

I followed the same basic steps for adding the design to the top of the cloche.
After the paint was dry I used some
E-600 glue to attach a brushed nickle knob
to the top of the cloche for a handle.
