Happy Labor Day!
I’m Laboring.
That’s what you’re supposed to do right?
Good!
Because I have loads of projects to do
and lots I have been wanting to share.
I’m finding I am much better at getting things done
then I am about sharing it with you here afterwards.
Seems I’m always a few weeks behind in sharing
what I (sometimes “we”) have been up to.
Lately, I’ve been having a
constant struggle with trying to beat back
the chaos that is trying to swallow
my home decor and craft storage room.
Like tooth and nail!
Anyone who has been reading me awhile might remember me mentioning
that we don’t have a garage.
We have an extra house…
(the one where my mother in law lives)
But no garage.
You can feel sorry for me now.
Just kidding!
I’m a lucky, lucky girl.
Does anyone else have a problem
referring to themselves as a “woman”?
Or is that just me?
Woman feels so serious!?
Anyhow… oh my, I guess I am chatty today.
So…
The complete overhaul that I just did in January… yeah, it is unrecognizable.
I took everything out of the room and spent days going through it all… and even flipped all my home decor storage from downstairs.
Well, just click this link and catch up real quick.
It’ll make more sense 🙂
After you do that.
You know how you promise yourself you won’t let it get like that again?
I did that…
And as you already know from the first picture.
I failed to keep that promise.
I ended up letting all this work…
Look like THIS again.
Piled high with stuff on-top-of stuff!
Think I use my yoga ball much?
Can you even spot my poor yoga ball!
To be honest, it is about time that I dug out my yoga ball and started getting back into yoga again. I went through a phase of being absolutely obsessed with yoga – I even thought about attending yoga instructors training at one point. Yoga is an amazing way to clear your mind and tone up and I do want to focus more on my health now so I might have to dust off all of my old yoga gear and get stuck back in. Do you like yoga?
Anyway, “this” now looks like… this
The wind blew this candelabra off the upper cabinets in our kitchen.
I can save it though right?
Here it was, all in one piece.
You can just make it out. Next to the chalkboard.
The skylight makes for interesting photo challenges!
I’m happy to report that after
another huge purge
and a marathon, 2-day garage sale…
I am able to walk into the room again.
(Without fear of dang near killing myself.)
I have a few tweaks to make and then I can share the finished project tomorrow. It took a little work and I really hope the changes I made are the answer!
(please.. please.. PLEASE work this time!!!)

Oh my gosh we have a room like that too. We technically have a garage, but it leaks, so it’s not actually useable because anything we put in there is ruined really quickly. We also don’t have a basement, oh how I want a basement. Most people here in Michigan have ’em, but we don’t. Someday.

I was almost inspired to clean a closet or something, but then I got worried I might find exercise balls and have to decide to exercise.

Wouldn’t it be great if our organization stayed organized! I spotted your exercise ball, I have the exact same one; Mine is hanging out in the garage. …our balls could be friends and keep each other company.
And yes, I struggle with calling myself woman or lady. I’m just a girl at heart and those words seem so mature.
I’m looking forward to seeing the changes you’ve made in your storage room.

Oh girl, don’t we all do this? I have an unfinished basement. Hubby built me a nice big storage area that runs underneath the porch. I have managed to keep it nice and clean the entire time we lived here until of late. Thinking I might down size on some decor I started pulling stuff out. MISTAKE! Now it’s just chaos. My goal is to go clean and organize next week. You have inspired me to “Get Er Done!”
Hugs,

Shannon,
I can relate on so many levels! I have armoires stuffed with stuff … spilling over with stuff … I’m scared to open them overflowing with stuff!
Can’t wait to see the “afters” … and how brave of you to share the “befores”!
🙂

I’m just jealous you HAVE a craft space! Carving one out is on my to-do list this fall. Yours has a life of its own! Good luck! Can’t wait to see it. 🙂

I feel your pain – my basement is not the sparkling, squeaky clean place I left it after all that donating back in January! I’d have loved to be at your garage sale — but that would make my basement overflow with even more “stuff”!

First off…I too am a girl, possibly a lady. But a woman? Naaa. That doesn’t sound like much fun at all. I love this post because my favorite thing to do is organize my craft space, and every. single. time. I pile other crap right on top of it…then organize again. It’s a vicious cycle, but because we are “nesters,” that’s just life for us. My mom found an article in Country Living when I was 21 that explained it to me. I thought I was just crazy…moving and rearranging things all of the time, then this article came out, and told me that I was in fact not crazy, just a nester. I kind of like it! Love ya girly!

I always say I’m going to be neater and clean up right away after a project in my craft/sewing room, Shannon. It does not always happen! It is a small room so I can’t let it get too far along with things piled in there to be put away “soon”. I have been pretty good recently putting everything away once I’m done with it. It makes it a lot easier for me to get in there and actually find stuff.
Cassie @ Primitive & Proper says
i do stuff like that ALL. THE. TIME. but i won’t this time. 😉
can’t wait to see the newly (re)organized space!

Shannon, I could just cry. I have a space that everyone puts everything into (by everyone I mean me, myself and I…and, occasionally the old boy). It has gone from neat and organized to a mess again. The worst part is I have out of town guests coming in a couple of weeks and would like to have it done for then. I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Good for you, girl, that you are getting it done- xo Diana

Your organization looks great! I can’t imagine not having a garage. When we were looking to move into this smaller house the one thing that would be a deal breaker would be no garage. Mine is sectioned in half…my husband gets half and I get half and we fight if anyone’s stuff drifts to the other ones side. 🙂 I am anxiously awaiting paint projects! What is the most sold color so far?
Gina says
If I only had a dollar for every time I’ve organized something & purged stuff, only to have it go right back to the way it started in no time. It’s so frustrating! Hopefully you’ve got it this time.
Teresa @Magazine Your Home says
I understand completely. Every time I clean my craft room I swear I’ll never let it get in the hoarder state again. But little by little I stash ‘stuff’ in there til I can barely walk in. And I HAVE a garage. Go figure!
