Hey-Hey Foxy Friends!
Sharing a budget project today.
My $5 Coffee Sack Chair Makeover!
Mr. Foxy helped on this one. The extra set of hands was pretty “handy”!
What? Too cheesy?
Anyhow, I started on my own, but the giant stapler barley fit in my hands, and it kept jamming.
I may or may not have called it a piece of ____. (you can use your imagination)
So my hubby kindly came and gave me a hand.
Teamwork. Gotta love it.
I lined up the seam of the bag to make it look like an embellished trim.
Totally cool cheat!
Then I used this numbered side of the bag as my design accent.
Totally cool cheat. #2.
I was going to stencil something, but I thought it looked pretty good as-is.
So I left it alone!
In a nutshell. I slipped the chair pad in the bag to assess the placement.
Flipped it over. Sliced it open. Stapled the front section with the seam.
Then cut excess fabric and proceeded to (have Jim) staple away.
The bag was a gift Jim picked up for me last Summer when the guys went on their Manly-Men road trip! He is a good “picker”!!
The coffee sack was 100% Hemp. I love that it has the “Burlap Vibe” but it’s much softer!
On the actual chair frame, I used Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint in Magnolia
and Maison Blanche Antiquing Wax in Clear.
I might add a little dry brush accenting, or maybe some Organza. I have not decided. Thoughts? Sometimes, I’m afraid to add more for fear it’ll go from “Just fine. To, I should have stopped while I was ahead!”
So I held off. Sometimes, I have to really let things roll around before I make a move.
Before I forget, have you heard about Simply The Best?
Sorry to interrupt, but I’m pretty excited!!
Okay now, back to that chair…
I liked the original black very much. It had a long happy life.
But, it had been black for over 10 years and I was tired of it
I’ve got an odd set of 5?
I know.
So I figured I’d practice on this one.
I discovered painting chairs is a real pain. So far, the other 4 are safe.
and I’m out of coffee sacks.

I was just lucky I thought of that as trim, before I cut it all off!!!

I totally love it the way it is!! The coffee sack is perfect. I am kicking myself for getting rid of an odd antique dining chair when we moved. Could have used my new Magnolia chalk paint, dang it! 😉

Angela! I am so lucky, he is a great picker (and diy helper guy too). He likes to work on projects with me and we have almost always had a house that had projects to be done.

Great Job Shannon! It turned out fantastic! 🙂
Jami @ An Oregon Cottage says
Love it, Shannon! And your cheats aren’t cheats, they are clever uses of your sack 😉
Oh, and buy a $40 paint sprayer and your chairs will be done in a flash and you’ll be looking around for other things to paint! I did a little review awhile ago and was surprise how nice it w as and how quickly things like chairs were done.

Shannon,
This chair is adorable. I love everything and I love the trim idea. So great. I hate painting chairs too but this one my dear came out so nice. Great job.

I know! Why are chairs so sucky? hehe. I have the other four to do, but I am thinking that can be a project for after the floors are in. I just don’t see it happening before then!
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
I love it just as it is, Shannon! How great that the bag had that trim on it. That was a great cheat!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says

Yep! And you recovered ALL your chairs, I only did one. (so far)

Yes, team work is good. It looks good. Like the added trim. You need an electric stapler. Of course my didn’t always shoot correctly and I may have let a word or two fly, too. 🙂
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
LOL! Yeah, never listen to me doing a craft. I burn my fingers, the bobbin runs out of thread and I don’t know it… haha. The list goes on.
