Adding Boho Style To Our Cottage Home

We can tailor them to fit our needs & style, but it’s a jumping off point to start at. This month, we were tasked with trying a new look or style and sharing how we incorporate it into our home.

Today I’m going to share how I went about adding some boho style to our cottage home!

I was so ready for a little fun, and a little something different. Not too crazy, but not perfectly cottage style either. Enter…  the Papasan Chair.

Okay, who recalls these from the first time around? 

My aunt had one, I remember sitting in it, and it was fabulous! When I saw the Papasan Chair on the Walmart website I knew I was going to make it work. Just for nostalgia sake, if nothing less. And it’s such a fun departure from cottage style. 

I think it really easy to slide new pieces into your space if you keep a few things in mind — Scale & Color

The rich dark base, paired with the light, neutral chair cushion (which is pure velvety decadence by the way) play really well in my space. With the base mimicking my dark hardwoods, and the pale grey slipping in as an easy neutral. 

I went ahead and fiddled a bit with some accents while I was at it…

I stumbled across this water hyacinth basket line, and well… they are BASKETS. So I bought a few. The larger size is my favorite (there were two in the set), and the smaller size came in a set of four! 

It’s primed and ready to get stuffed with cozy throws for Autumn. But I am not rushing that one little bit! Even if you see me share a Autumn project soon. Know my heart is still singing a SUMMER tune. See? I didn’t even type the F word. “Autumn” seems so much less confrontational. 

This is a closer look at the smaller size that come in a set of four. Such a super value! 

Better Homes & Gardens has had such a strong lantern game! Bravo to the buyers on that front. I’m still using my galvanized metal lanterns and the new ones coming out are gorgeous! I’ll for sure be grabbing a few and showing you are soon as I get my hands on them. I love the affordable price point too. Especially since I prefer to buy in pairs. 

My mom actually grabbed this cutie on the bathroom accessory isle. But I love it for my remote. It’s never looked so chic sitting out. Having it nest in this little marble tray doesn’t even make my eye twitch! I have not put it away in weeks.

The denim fringe pillow was a last minute grab and I wasn’t even sure if I loved it. But what was I thinking? It looks great with my sweater knit pillows, and super cute in the Papasan Chair too. I can’t believe I doubted a pillow!

Next, let’s slid over into our casual dining room where we kept the boho mojo a go-go going!

I was working slowly and did the table before the Papasan Chair had arrived

I spied these gorgeously, chunky marble candle holders when Jimmy whisked me over to the valley, then thru the Redwoods, and back over to the coast down in Northern California before my surgery. We ran into a Walmart for something I can’t even recall, but I took at peek at their decor section while I was there. Habit, lol. When I saw them I knew I wanted some when we got home. I paired 2 medium and 2 large together. Ideally, I wanted a fifth to keep them staggered and at an odd number, but I bought the only four my store had. 

You can do pillars or tapers in them and the tapers stand up beautifully! I’ve never had a candle holder that a taper actually fit and stayed in so well. They are absolutely frustration-free. 

The dishes were another fun “not my normal” and I’m so pleased with them! They are causal, which totally fits my lifestyle, and a nice heavy stoneware. They feel, substantial. The pattern really grew on me too. 

The house feels really relaxed, and kind of poised for the upcoming change of season. 

It’s not blatantly Summer… and all the Lemon decor has been put away.

Perhaps a touch early but I took my moms help while I could. 

But there are no Autumn colors and no heaviness of Fall. 

I feel like the house is holding it’s breath — It knows it’s coming, and I know it’s coming… but we are happily living in our little boho bubble for just a bit longer. 

It was incredibly fortuitous that I was able to work up in the living room again, as I did this post using my walker and cane (and a little wobble-hobble). hehe. No worries, my mom was here and she was a massive help! I hope seeing some of these relaxed, boho inspired pieces in my home give you the confidence to stretch and try something new that’s been calling to you. No matter the size or style, our homes are our havens… let’s have some fun with them!! xo Shannon
