Aqua Blue Painted Interior Door
Hey Foxy friends!! Come meet my brand new aqua blue painted interior door… quick, before I change it!
In classic Fox Hollow fashion, I got a crazy whim to paint my interior door late one night. I threw the idea of using color samples to the wind (all the stores were closed anyway) and mixed up a color with paint I had on hand and just went for it!
Here it was before, wearing a nice neutral grey.
If you like this better, no worries. It could very likely be grey again some day.
My inspiration color was Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue (shown in the photo below). I was scrolling and it popped up. I’d seen this photo before many times, but for some reason, right then… it lit a fire under me to go blue that very minute!!
My door is photographing much lighter and brighter but even still, in real life, it’s a little more blue and less aqua-green that I’d like. It needs more depth too. So, I’ll call this a base coat and be getting a richer color this week.

It’s definitely FUN though and I’m not sorry at all. It was kind of one of those “do it now or your never will” sort of deals. I consider it a test run. Plus, I’ve got painting a door down to about 30 minutes so it’s not much trouble to re-do it.
Meanwhile, I figured I’d have some myself a little fun with it!
I played with some toss pillows, and bought a new lamp… and in-general just had fun taking some pictures of my almost, but not quite right, new blue door.
Two of these chunky cuties were brought home Friday. It’s twin is in the living room. If you follow me on Instagram, I was sharing several lamp & shade combos and options in the Instagram Story feature (thanks for the feedback by the way). These lamps are already working out fantastic. I grabbed them right here in town at ROSS and they were under $30 bucks, and the lighter shades offer better light output than the darker, more opaque woven style I had in here previously!
I am missing my big jute rug in the living room though… it’s feeling a bit naked in there! I’m going to have to figure something out, but I’ve got to think on it a bit. I don’t want to order another large rug, then end up not needing it if the chair doesn’t stay here. For one, the large size would cut into my budget for The Little Cottage projects, and two, it would be large to store! And I don’t have that kind of room. So I’ll ponder it a bit longer.
One of my girlfriends and I went out to lunch Friday, and lucky, lucky me… she gifted me armfuls of Cherry branches! They are so gorgeous. I can’t really describe the joy I have gotten from them, and I am so thankful she thought of me.
My view from this chair is really simple. I’ve got the hearth flanked with topiaries, and some twinkle lights laid behind a shutter. I wanted it quiet and restful.
I picked up this candle while I was out too.
You know, because I absolutely did not need it.
Well friends. That is it for today. Those are my exciting happenings. I’m just whoopin’ it up over here. Painting doors crazy colors and buying candles I don’t need.
I know you can relate to at least one of those things.
xo Shannon
PS: The book you saw on my ottoman is the Brand New release from the New York Times best selling author, Melissa Michaels. And it may look little… but it’s MIGHTY. I’ve been leafing through it, trying to wait until vacation to read it so I can leisurely soak it all in. I might not make it… it’s so full of powerful decorating tidbits. This girl knows here stuff! And I bet she doesn’t mix up paint colors like a kooky scientist at 10 o’cock at night. She’s smart! Be like Melissa.

How did you paint your armoire ?:)
With Maison Blanche Vintage Furniture Paint in Magnolia. I cheated and spray painted the shutter doors for a first coat though 😉
Who knew painting an interior door could make such a difference? I love it! I saw the inspiration picture and loved it too–so glad you went ahead with your own door!
Hi Shannon!! Me too, I’m having so much fun with it 🙂
