Autumn Apothecary ~ It’s Fall At The Cottage
Hello!!
We are welcoming the crisp, cooler days of Fall here at the cottage.
We’ve had a little gloom, and a little rain.. and that sure helps get you in the mood!
Throw in the totally-yummers Pumpkin Praline candle I got at Big Lots, and Mmm-Mmm. I’m ready.
Run and get you one. It’s divine!!
Austin came home from school today and declared the house smelled good enough to eat.
(I think I owe him some homemade cookies)
It has been a JOY to decorate the apothecary cabinet since I gave it a paint makeover.
I’m a neutral girl with the big stuff. It just works for me. I’m free to decorate however the mood strikes when I’ve got an easy to work with backdrop! And this fits the bill. Decorating to reflect and celebrate the seasons and holidays make me happy.
A simple pleasure.
It doesn’t have to be that hard either.
I keep most of the “white” stuff out, delete the extras, and pop in something seasonally relevant.
I went with copper this Fall. It started with the goodies I paid next to nothing for at a garage sale a few weekends ago.
The vase? Fifty cents. Dead serious.
It was an old school garage sale with tape and markers for price stickers and throw back pricing.
The little cream and sugar set was one dollar.
I did the Ball jars with a little-bit-O-spray-paint.
… and added some vintage knobs I harvested off and old piece of furniture I made over.
No tutorial on those, I know you can figure it out!!
Paint. Distress if you like. Drill a hole. Add knobs.
Tip: Use a metal bit when you drill your hole. Now, I’ve never used a wood bit on metal… cough-cough.
I will tell you that I have all my own bits now though. hehe. Live and learn.
Anyhow… back to the ta-da!
So insta-cute.
Well, close enough to “instant”.
Cheap and easy for sure.
This little beauty was ten cents.
I kid you not.
I was giddy.
GIDDY I tell you.
Cool on the outside though. (you can’t let on ya know.. the other shoppers will notice!)
It was also discovered at the cool-cool super old school. Garage sale.
Read that as a cheer would you?
It’s how I typed it.
hahaha
Confession? It’s getting late and I’m a little silly right now!
I’ve been project busy and I want to show you what I’ve been doing, while it’s still the proper season!!
Now, about those copper canisters down there… sitting demurely on the bottom shelf.
Those are something I’ve coveted for years now. They were living at my mother in laws, and when she moved, you guessed it, she gifted them to me. Pure luck and a sweet lady I tell ya. I am blessed!! (and a little spoiled)
Baskets, burlap… and there is that Nate Berkus pillow again.
I tell you that matte metallic gold goes with almost everything. Best little pillow!!
I suppose I should correct myself, I guess technically it’s a coffee sack on the chair. One of my $5 makeovers.
These are my very own Hydrangeas I used to decorate with.
My very own!
The planters on the sun deck this Summer did great.
Funny how with the deer not being able to get to them, they actually BLOOM.
Drying them was so simple. I hung some twine and clipped the stems to it with clothes pins. And just let time do it’s trick.
Even if I could buy anything I wanted to decorate with, nothing compares to what nature can provide!
It’s my opinion that the Hydrangeas and Autumn branches make the whole thing.
I think if I took those elements out, it would look flat and dull.
Lackluster if you will.
You might be thinking you’ve seen that white bar stool recently, and you are right.
What did I tell you about the white paint. See?
That is why I get so stuck on it. It’ll go with everything!
I found the gem of a tray at Birch Lane and presto, it gave it a whole new look!!
Almost a mini table. Love it.
Add a little animal print.. and Rawr. It’s rocking at the hollow.
A tiny peek of a copper platter, and that is it.
I’m done sharing our apothecary cabinet dressed for Autumn.
I’ve got plans for a little update here in the sun room and I want to get it done before the “C” word.
I promise to show you as soon as it’s complete.
I hope you’ll visit again, there is something else I’ll be sharing in the sun room soon!!
Special thanks to Birch Lane for supplying the handy-dandy tray turned table top.

I love everything about this post! Your attention to detail and creativity is amazing 🙂 I especially love the mason jars! What spray paint did you use?
Hi there! I really had fun with this thank you! The paint is Krylon Brilliant Gold, or Rustoleum Copper. I can’t recall? Oops.
I love how your pretty ball jars turned out. I will have to get to Big Lot’s for a candle. Fall is my favorite time for
candles and pumpkin is one of my favorite scents.
Joy, they had some really great scents. This was very fragrant when lit too!! Thank you, they were fun to do. I like sparkly stuff (:
I love it!!! The white and copper is perfect for fall!!! Can I also say that I absolutely love the “basket within the basket”!!! I would have never thought of that!!! LOL!! Now I’m off to look for some baskets!!~~Angela
Angela I love to stack and nest stuff! Hope you have fun doing the same (:
Your apothecary is wonderful. The way you’ve styled it is perfect and I love the copper touches.
It’s a neat piece I’m lucky to have. Thank you so much! Happy Fall
Love the white & copper! Hmmmmm….my brother has my mother’s old copper molds from her kitchen. Think I’ll have to go see if I can use them. lol
Sounds like it might be your turn to “watch” them. hehe
Happy Autumn to you!!
