Cheap and Easy {no frills} Craft Supply Storage
Hey Everyone! Just A Quickie Today About My “no frills” Craft Storage Solution.
I was chatting with you all about not being able to find some of my craft supplies a few weeks ago and how frustrating that was. I mean heck, it took me longer to find what I was looking for, then it did for me to whip up my craft. There is something wrong with that and I knew I needed to take action!
The main problem was, that I had my crafts in three different places. I knew it would help me stay organized if I had everything in one place. So, I went about clearing up some precious real estate and freed up one, full sized metal shelf in the home decor and craft storage room. (which truthfully, the crafts got the shaft as far as space in that makeover).
(the shelf I cleared off, hidden behind the tea cart that is loaded down and piled up with stray craft stuff!)
I did not want to spend a bunch of money and I was pretty sure the Dollar Tree would have some cheap storage solutions such as storage lockers. They did. I grabbed a bunch a plain, white bins that I knew would do the trick.
Nothing mind blowing.. nothing that has not been done before.. but sometimes seeing something spurs someone into action and this might be the spur you needed? If so, you’re welcome 🙂

A much as I love the look of the gorgeous craft rooms I see. And believe me I do! I knew I did not have a lot of time to spend on this, and I really did not have a lot of money to throw at it either. I just needed function. Fast. (and cheap)
Plus.. this poor room is operating at maximum capacity. I’ve got it stuffed. Lots of decor, no room to decorate!

I deleted two, large, full size totes (yay!!) and separated all my supplies into these smaller bins.
That also means I have two, large, full size totes worth of room on another shelf now. Double score!

It took about an hour to go through everything, sort it and get it put back. It was an hour well spent!
All my goodies have their own bins now and I can see everything! Plus, I can easily grab a whole bin and take it into the next room with me if needed.
I could not manage to fit everything on that one shelf though, so I commandeered some under utilized shoe storage and reassigned it!
This is already proving hugely useful and working much harder then when it had a few stray pairs of flip flops in it!!
I put my crafty favs in here. The things I pretty much use every time I make something. I keep my Gingher scissors in here too. Hidden away so the boys don’t cut lord know what with them! They were my grannies and I’m pretty sentimental about them. I also adhere to the strict “fabric only” cutting rule that she placed on them.
I’m pretty sentimental about my glue gun too.
You know, I have had that since before Austin was born. Before I was married. Heck, I’m pretty sure I’ve had it longer then I’ve know my husband.
It’s an antique.
I definitely have an attachment to it 😉
While this is not terribly exciting, I shared my newly organized craft storage in case anyone else is wanting to get organized and they are feeling overwhelmed, under motivated.. or that they just don’t have the money to do it.
It’s not super cute or glam. I don’t have chalkboard labels on all the bins.. fancy shelves or stenciled walls..

but it’s organized.
And for now… it is good enough!
PS- Of course.. I was almost too embarrassed to share this after
Tricia showed off her SO CUTE linen closet makeover yesterday!!
Mine is on my to-do list… and I took notes!

where did you get the shelf thing on rollers that has the cover over it?
I think I picked that up at Fred Meyer. Sort of a Target in the PNW. Have you tried looking online? It’s super useful.
Looks great, Shannon! Something I so desperately need to do is to organize all my craft supplies into one spot and to try and make some sort of sense out of them! Thanks for the great ideas!
Have a wonderful weekend! Kelly xoxo
You did a great job, Shannon! There’s always a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment when you’ve organized an area. The piece with the cover looks like it really came in handy for holding craft supplies.
Yay for organization! You’ve almost inspired me to get organized. Key word: Almost. HA HA HA! Looks great, Shan!
Ahhh, organized! It’s so nice. And using that shoe bin…brilliant! I love anything on wheels that can easily be moved to where I need it.
Love it, so much more pleasing to the eye, which in turn makes it easier to craft!!!
Looks wonderful!
Hugs, Gee
I love all of the words you used to describe this, cheap and easy, being my favorites! The other day I caught my 3 year old with my glue gun and realized I really have to get on it and organize my craft supplies (again)!

Well after seeing this, guess where I heading tomorrow? Yes, Dollar Tree! Thanks Shannon for the bright idea!!!
Looking good girl. What a nice feeling that is. I am working on all of my CR***, I mean stuff for the next month.
