Cottage Farmhouse Table Decorating Ideas
Hello friends! There are a whirlwind of changes going on here at the cottage. If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll know I got a new to me farmhouse dining table, and as luck would have it, just in time for my latest partnership collaboration with Better Homes & Gardens. The new Spring goodies available now at Walmart don’t disappoint, and I added some fresh things to the new farm table, as well as a pair of super cute, modern farmhouse style bar stools. Come see!
Let’s start with the new farm table.
I bought her on a complete whim from a local store called Tru Furniture, which is really great about sharing the latest additions to the store on their Facebook page… and I’m on Facebook a lot… so we collided. haha
Lucky me, she was delivered before we left for Seattle and I got to break her in with a simple (because it’s me we are talking about here) tablescape. I use that term loosely. Mine aren’t fancy, but I’m starting to get the appeal. Understanding how someone can have a dish room is kind of making sense. I’ll never (I know you are never supposed to say never) dive in that deep, but I can totally see how you could start adding things to your serving & centerpiece collection, real quickly.
My table began with a few BHG staples down the middle, and blossomed from there.
LET’S CREATE A CENTERPIECE
Lanterns are a staple you can’t go wrong with.
I decided to start with a tall center lantern, and flank it with the teal ceramic lanterns on either side.
I peppered the table with these sweet, soft coral flower blossoms that hold a tealight or votive sized candle.
For the ceramic lantern, I simply added a mason jar to the center, and raided the property. The clippings add life, vibrancy and texture to the table, without costing a dime. If you find yourself short on funds or time, this is a simple trick that’ll keep your table looking polished and finished. Without having to run another errand.
These white metal lanterns… I’m telling you guys, do you see how often I use them?
They really are my favorite thing… VERSATILE.
Here they are wearing a simple white candle. I decided not to adorn the interior with anything. I just liked the pure simplicity this time around.
I think my metal chairs are a pretty good match for the new table too.
What do you think?
NEXT UP, THE PLACE SETTINGS.
Table for four please.
I kind of have a thing for white dishes. If you’ve seen my apothecary cabinet, you’ll know this about me. Well, there is a brand new white style available, called Anniston. I added the pretty white bowls to my collection.
To create this look I layered:
- A jute braid place mat
- A faux wood charger
- A white plate
- My new white Anniston bowls (so cute!)
- Topped with a simple napkin ring and linen ( from the Spring home tour )
- Flanked with my coppery Ivana flatware
Speaking of flatware… I forget to double check my placement. I hope the silverware police don’t come for me!
The area behind the table easily doubles as a buffet or bar when dining because of it’s location.
This little aqua cutie hopped in my cart when I was tableware shopping… and I let it stay.
I mean, look at that face?
I’ve stuffed a cute basket with my extra melamine plates. These are perfect for the upcoming season with all the outdoor eating and snacking, without worrying about broken dishes. I love that they look like stoneware too!
The oval galvanized tray holds my wine glasses. What is it about grouping things on a tray. I just makes it look a million times more polished and pulled together. I love this trick! But obviously, not drinking wine… since this bottle it a screw top. That I clearly bought for the cute label. No worries, I always make sure to ask what everyone likes before we entertain. Bonus, I’m a great designated driver.
I just have to say, I adore those little ceramic flowers… they remind me of a fancy glided porcelain one my grandma had. Just… makes me think of her. And isn’t the patina on the table great? I love that it’s not new. And she has great legs too!
My little green cart says HELLO.
I think it might need a name, it’s just too cute.
I’m so glad I got the rectangle tiered tray to add to my collection of galvanized goods. It’s so perfect here!!
I really need to grab the round one before they are all gone too, or I know I’ll regret it.
It decorates up so cute too!! The little bit of brassy-gold they added this season is just delish!!
NOW, ABOUT THE BAR STOOLS.
I have a plan. (mwah hahahaha)
For now, they shall happily live in the sun room, pulled up the the bar.
They are a great blend of modern & farmhouse, and the wood top is gorge! They are adjustable and came in other colors as well! They are sold individually at a super price, and are an even lower price if you buy them in multiples. I got the set of two, shipped to my door. Light assembly was required. I put them together in two shakes. Easy-peasy. If you are interested in getting your own bar stools, then there are loads that you could buy. All you have to do is click to browse dining and bar stools online here.
Totally off topic, but I just have to say this… see my floors? Ugh. This is just cleaned… I’m telling you. Don’t go dark. You’re welcome.
After I worked on this space, I realized I needed to plan a dinner party very soon to break in the new table. It needs some life around it, and to hear some new stories!
Now… I know, that you all know, I’m not really serving a meal right this minute.
But, you can bet I enjoyed a slice of that “prop bread” right there when I was done shooting. Carbs are the true blogging perk. Just in case you were wondering. Now you know. (oh, and real butter) Butter is a perk too. haha
Take care everyone! I was a little bit extra excited to share this one. We are in love with the new table, and I can already tell… it is going to be a joy to decorate and play with for “work”. Just like it was today with all the new BHG stuff!!
Blessings, xo Shannon

The new blog looks great! I can not even imagine how excited you are to be building a custom home!!!!
So happy you got the other place sold and everything fell into place for you.
I love how you decorated! I’m
still so in love with your new dining table!
Thank you!! Oh thanks, it was spur of the moment, but it’s working out so well, because the other one is already down at The Little Cottage and working as perfect as I’d hoped!
Do u know where you got the rooster creamer?
I got that at HomeGoods and it was $3.99 🙂
Your table & chairs are so cute and refreshing. I love the aqua colour with the white. You did an excellent job!
Well thank you so much! I’m really having fun practicing on my table decorating skills.
I really enjoyed this post. I especially like the farmhouse table and metal chairs. I was wondering if the rooster creamer was new.
*Smiles*
Hi Pamela, It’s not vintage. I’m trying to recall where I got that? Probably HomeGoods? Perhaps Ross. It was just a little bauble. Under $5 I’m sure!
Updated: It was HomeGoods and it was $3.99
Love the new table setting! Are the dishes on the bar also BHG?
Hi Janet. The chargers are from HomeGoods, the plates are from… The Dollar Store, and the bowls are from HomeGoods too. They were with all the Easter displays items.
Is my room ready?
The Little Cottage is getting there 😉
love the table , dishes and everything! thanks!
Is that tBle a one of a kind? If not, do you know who the manufacturer is?
I will try to find out for you Bridget. Stay tuned 😉
Thanks Shannon, it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for! ?
It’s not a OOAK, I found out the wholesaler is a company called DCI. I hope that helps!! 🙂
Thank you very much, that’s gives me someplace to start my search! I really appreciate you taking the time to find that information!
Of course. No problem. Wish you luck!
aw shucks , the green table? must not BH&G , right? That looks perfect for a spot at my house.
Cart , that is,
Do love the flatware. and everything else!
Yeah… I kinda snuck that in 😉 It’s from Decor Steals. Which is a daily deal site.
I got it, gosh at least a year ago. It stayed in the box because it was supposed to be for The Little Cottage… but I accidentally put it together and stole it. haha. After it fit so perfect here, it’s going to stay awhile.
I am loving your new table…I’m thinking I need some lanterns now! Thanks for the inspiration!
Ya just can’t go wrong with lanterns. They have the ceramic ones in white and navy too!! (and they come in two sizes)
The ones you’re seeing on my post are the smaller of the two.
