Diy Projects and Realities of 2013
One of the best parts about getting ready to welcome a new year, is taking the opportunity to look back and revisit all that we have accomplished. As far as this little blog in concerned, I was pleasantly surprised by just how much we have gotten marked off our home improvement project list this year. I’m already compiling a 2014 DIY dream list from websites I find inspiration from frequently, such as https://construction2style.com/ and others… I’ll be sharing that list with you soon! I might have to let Jim look at it too. [winks}
For now, please enjoy the 2013 list. It’s done.

HONORABLE MENTION
Because we worked our butts off on it… so I will be mentioning. {grins}
Hardwood Floors – This year was a big one for us, because it’s the year we installed new hardwood floors in our upper living area. I still can’t believe they are ours. Yes we saved, and yes we installed them, but it still feels a bit surreal. One of the big reasons we did this now, is because this could be the final home we age in, we thought we might as well get some of the bigger and more important jobs done now, so we can enjoy more time when we are older without having to keep up with as much home maintenance. Surely this would be common sense to people, but the more common thought among people now is that whichever house they are in, won’t be the one they age in… If you know you could be in your forever home already, you may want to take note of some of these home improvement tips too… Anyway, the floors are so pretty. We just love them and we feel very lucky to have them. I still owe my husband a “diy hardwood floor install” post. I’ve got all the pictures of our project, I just need to thread them together properly. He deserves it! As much as I love my hardwood floor, my friend recently told me about anti-fatigue flooring for those on their feet all the time. I think it’s mainly used in workplaces that involves standing for long periods of time, but I think it would be great for our house…I feel like I’m on my feet constantly!
Ceiling to Baseboard Paint Job – Before we put the floors in, we thought it would be a good idea to paint from the ceilings down in the sun room, kitchen, hallway, living room and entry. That was my job, far less glamorous, and possibly hard to notice if you don’t live here. It felt like night and day to me though. The biggest difference was taking the trim around the nine windows in the sun room from dark brown stain to Benjamin Moore Super White. Which took a lot of caulking, priming and paint but was so worth it in the end. For the walls, we basically went from a tan to a cooler, ultra pale white/grey color. The house is so much brighter. I knew in those first few strokes it was going to make a big difference.
And… that is enough braggy-bragginess from me!
We are having some company tonight and I’m off to grab some munchie goodies and stuff.
The mantel it done, the front says Happy New Year! and we are ready to rock
Wishing you all a happy, healthy, may all your dreams come true new year!

Hi Shannon: Just wanted to let you know I fell in love with the farmhouse table and chairs you did. We lived on a ranch for many years and had lots of foster kids and this table (perhaps longer to fit all of them) would be great. Very pretty and looked easy to construct. I couldn’t find your site here in my search engine so had to go way back. Says it’s no longer there.
Hope it’s not true,
