Love farmhouse style home decor and color? Me too! I’m sharing how you can decorate your home in a fun farmhouse style using neutrals, while still infusing your home with colorful accents.
Farmhouse Style Decorating with Color
Today’s post is brought to you in partnership with my sponsor, Better Homes & Gardens at Walmart.
When I found out that our Better Homes & Gardens project focus this month was Style That Makes You Happy… I was just that. HAPPY! It’s all about our interpretation and decorating style, and I think you guys know I kind of walk the line between loving neutrals, and crushing on color too. So I’m blending them.
And, I did something I’ve been thinking about for awhile…
I bought the Collin Modern Farmhouse Table!
The reason I did this, is so I could show you all how it looks with the chairs we all love so much.
It’s got the distressed metal base, and a kind of “Modern-Farmhouse” look. You can select between three colors for the table base. I’m sharing the “white”, though it’s more of a dark white, or putty color. The top is a very pretty, lightly textured dark wood. It’s a great size and seats four. I think you could do two chairs on the ends in a pinch, but four is optimal.
I get so many questions and comments about our Collin Distressed Metal Chairs, I thought it could be really informative if I shared the table they pair with to give you all an up-close view of what the complete set looks like!! So this one it for YOU!!
The chairs are surprisingly comfy and have a nice sized seat! We have been pleased with ours and they are such a great price. You can get them in three colors. White (like mine), Silver, or Green.
These are classic farmhouse basics, and the neutral color allows them to morph as your color palette does, and seasons and your tastes change. Looking for more farmhouse style home inspiration? Check out this shortlist for the 66 Best Modern Farmhouse Sites Award from Annie & Oak.
With Summer coming. That means AQUA for me!
I played around with layering up some of the Better Homes & Gardens melamine dishes that are out for Summer, and a few basics I’d collected. I couldn’t decide between the white bowls, and the patterned ones. At $1.98 I bought both sets of four.
Centerpiece designing is still pretty new to me, and this smaller table proved a challenge. I did find that my sugar mold was a perfect fit for the slim center space left after layering a runner and some place mats I had on-hand.
I got two of the galvanized candle sleeves (like I used on my mom’s patio, pictured below) and added some faux greenery. A glass jar could be added too, and fresh flowers used. I love versatile decor pieces!
As an alternative, I grabbed one of the ceramic lanterns, and added some fresh flowers for a different look. When you use neutral colors on the big stuff, like furniture, rugs and walls, it’s easy to add color with accessories!
See how pretty the wood tabletop is?
While the space was empty waiting for the new table to be delivered, I cleaned all the crystals on my chandelier and gave it a fresh coat of paint. I love that Walmart offers free delivery. I ordered online and it came right to my front door!
Remember my lil Elephant planter?
Look how big my plant is getting!? They are so happy to see the sun. Just like me.
Trunk up for luck!
I repeated the aqua color from the table down in the sun room, with my vintage mason jar collection and some additional accessories.
When your basics are neutral, it doesn’t take much of a color, and a little repetition, for it to make a real impact!
The plant in my little concrete pot is doing so well too! I went back to get a few more of those pots but they were sold out. I’m not surprised, they are really cute. But guess what? They still have them available online!! Find them [here].
And that my friends, is how I’ve got a neutral home, with farmhouse decor, and added color!
I really hope you enjoyed seeing the Collin Distressed Table in our home. I was excited to get to share it with you, in case any of you were wondering what it looked like. I felt like as a part of the Better Homes & Gardens network, that might be a service you’d really appreciate. I hope to do that with more of the furniture in the future, if I am chosen to continue working with Better Homes & Gardens.
As a reader, would you find value in that? And would you like to see more “featured item” posts?
Thank you, as always, for hanging out with me!!
I’ve always been a fan of farmhouse decor – one of my friends has just moved into a farmhouse of her own and the whole place just looks so cosy. It feels like just a few days ago she was packing all her furniture and possessions into a Three Men And A Truck moving lorry! I’m going to pop over for a coffee soon so I can’t wait to get a closer look at her new home. On a more personal note, Jimmy and I are getting ready to go on our first real vacation in over five years. Austin is coming home to house sit, and that is such a blessing!! We can leave without a worry for the house or our pets. We are so over-ready for this. But, when I get back, I’ve got so much to catch you up on. SO MUCH!! And I’m already excited about what’s in store for us this Summer. Big hugs!! xo Shannon

I love love love what you have done. The table is so pretty and so is the cute elephant. I see so many things that I would like to try. Thanks for showing us.
Hi Betty – Thank you so very much! I know, isn’t he so cute?
Now, if Austin can keep the plant alive while we are away, I’ll be extra happy 😉 lol
So very beautiful for Spring…I LOVE the colors that pop throughout the rooms!!! ,,, You have taken the wonderful BHG items and styled them in the rooms with perfection…and that sign…….love it!
Aw thanks! I custom mixed that color and made that sign Shirley. It’s such a pleasure to get to share such an accessible, affordable line.
I really do enjoy sharing it and I’m glad you like it 🙂 Happy Springtime!
love the galvanized containers where did you acquire them. thanks in advance for your answer
All those galvanized goodies are from Walmart too! They are in-store for the season. Right now 🙂
Oh so pretty!! Love the color!! Have fun on vacation!!
Thank you my dear, I’m going to go get my “y’all” on 😉
Love your ideas on adding fresh summery color to your neutral color palette (that is the true value of having a neutral background – any accent color can totally change the entire look), Your BHG table and chairs are a great addition. Do continue to feature the BHG items you use. I plan to replace my antique oak table and chairs (depending on getting what they are worth) with a farmhouse style table that is 78″ to 84″ long and am looking at many different options. Your entire room is a joy to behold, so bright and open and the way your white hutch is backlit by being placed in front of the corner windows makes it glow! I love your blog and all your great ideas that inspire me. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful vacation.
Wow Jill, thank you for such a lovely comment. This really made me smile!! I’m so glad you like the way I share and style the Better Homes & Gardens line in our home. I may do a poll between a few items to see what you all want to see next – kinda think that would be fun 🙂 Happy Spring
I am in love with your designs. I wondered if you would give me information about your drapes. I have looked and looked, but’s they are so expensive. Thank yo
Hi Missy – Which drapes would you like to know about? I’d be happy to share where I got them 🙂
Absolutely stunning, Shannon! I love seeing all that BHG has to offer and I especially like seeing how you style it. It’s really helpful!
I’m so glad Kimberly! That is my goal. To share how it looks in a real home 🙂
Happy Spring!
I love every restyling of your home. Your choices are always beautiful and simple. I hope you have a wonderful vacation. If you drive across Oklahoma wave out the window.
Shannon-
Love this post!! And yes—would adore seeing more featured item shares!
Have a well-deserved relaxing vacation!
Super! I was kind of thinking that could be really helpful to folks considering BHG purchases, especially the big stuff ❤️
That really is a great table! I have followed a lot of your design advice since moving into our new home, in particular keeping the big ticket items neutral so I can change our punch colors seasonally or at my ever changing whim!
Have a wonderful, well-earned vacay and between long, romantic walks on a sunny or moonlit beach, take lots of pictures to share!
Love you!
Terri that means the world, I’m so glad ? I will try to do a FB live or two and show you what we are seeing!!
Everything looks so beautiful and fresh!!! Love the pops of aqua!!!
