You know, with readers visiting for the first time, I never know if I should start off as if you’re new here, or like I’m talking to an old fried?
I’m guessing these are just blogger problems.
So hello and welcome to Fox Hollow Cottage, or… it’s good to see you again!
That should cover it.
… and either way, I’m glad you’re here!!
Now, I didn’t get a new fur, but, I do have a new table.
Done up in sumptuous Silver Mink.
You last saw it wearing Bayou Blue. You can click here to see the original before… it’s come a long way!
It was beautiful in blue but I knew when I did it, I’d never keep it that way for long. Even that mild, coastal blue was a stretch for this neutral girl. I’m always so torn between color, and versatility. Well, in anything that I want to move around and have go from one look to another effortlessly.
Home decor, lampshades, rugs… and lord knows “pillows” can be switched out with ease. Ah pillows… of which I am definitely over fond of. Translation; I am a compete and utter pillow whore.
This table though, not so much.
So I slipped some Silver Mink on and finished it in Lime Wax in Chalk White.
(same finisher as before… I am in deep and meaningful love with that stuff!!!)
- For the new look, I simply applied two coats of the Silver Mink, let dry thoroughly, then brushed on a liberal coat of Lime Wax. Let sit, and softly buffed. That’s it!
The contrast is a bit more subtle on the Silver Mink, than the Bayou Blue in photographs, but it’s more pronounced in person.
And yes… that would be me. Painting furniture on my wood floors. That’s what drop cloths were invented for right? Pair it with some Maison Blanche, and I can create indoors to my hearts content! I {heart} no VOC paint. With no garage, and all the rain we get. I can paint 24/7 in my house if necessary. Which it often is, since I don’t know when that little urge to paintsomethingrightnow will strike. I didn’t distress this piece, so sanding and dust was not a problem.
Now that fur is real, but in my defense I bought it at a yard sale. For a dollar.
And if you’d of seen this mess of a sale you’d have bought it too!
Swear… I felt like I saved it.
Plus, they were accepting donations only as it was a fund-raiser to start a non-profit radio station. Like I said though. A mess.
I didn’t have a lot of faith that a business was going to spring up from those ashes.
This little brassy scrolly goody was a ____ (you got me?) in a past life. At casa de’ Fox, it’s a candle cradle. This week.
The equestrian element was a complete impulse buy.
I saw it and my hand was reaching for it immediately.
I originally thought I would paint him gold, or maybe a metallic mix… but he is staying black for now.
I don’t hate it? Not even the slight green under coat.
I need to live with him a bit before I decide for sure. Plus, most rooms can benefit from a little bit of black to bring some depth into the space.
My Nicole Miller throw is within easy reach on the chair back, but looks nice and tidy tucked in.
It’s so soft, with the perfect fringe and the colors are sublime. This thing is a Chameleon. I swear it looks great no mater the season. The grey is the perfect shade!
HomeGoods is now sucking me in not only with pillows, but with the throws too. And like the rest of the store isn’t a landmine of awesome. I going to need another home decor storage room… LOL!
With all my white furniture, and the dark wood floors.. it keeps things from feeling to “floaty”.
It grounds things and balances them out. At least for me.
I love the look of the austere white rooms I see.. but I never go that way when decorating.
I just sort end-up… where I end-up.
Not all white, not a riot of color.
Sort of like my style I suppose….
I’m not anything in particular.
I’m just mish-mash me.
Shannon

My Silver Mink – Fox Hollow Cottage Eclectic Everyday Decor
Love the design and your website. I am redoing a room and have to find a mirror like the one you used. It will go above the dresser in the room. The room has a beach theme.
Oh that sounds perfect!! The mirror is from 55 Downing Street. It’s so versatile. It’s been in the bathroom and now here. I think over the mantel next Summer will be next 😉
To one “pillow whore” from another… I love your work! The table is fabulous as is the fur that you saved! What a funny and cute and informative post Shannon! LOVE your style, my “pillow” friend!
What a fabulous transformation! I followed your link back to the original post and read through. Lots of great tips. It’s lovely in both of its incarnations. Using the rope was a great idea.
Shannon, I love what you did to the little table; just the name silver mink says winter is coming ! I even love the bit of fur and I usually prefer the fur to stay on the creature. I think you should leave the horse black…for now but sometime in the future I could definitely see him sporting some gold leafing shabby-ness (hint hint hint) maybe just in time for Christmas!
I know… it’s SO hard to pick. I guess he could go gold, then be back in black. lol!
Love how it turned out! I like the horse black……you can use it anywhere. You always find great deals!!
Linda, I do get lucky at Ross. The trick is, you’ve got to visit pretty often. The good stuff comes in and rushes right back out! The black is growing on me 😉
Love the horse head! And the little holder for the votive glass 😉
Me too. I zeroed right in on it. The brassy goodie was at some random garage sale. I liked it’s legs 😉
love , mish mash you! I also love that blanket, where did you get that?
The grey and winter white is Nicole Miller, got it at HomeGoods! (last season)
What a great transformation, it looks beautiful now 🙂 It always amazes me how a piece can change with just a few new touches.
I know! Paint. It still surprises me. You think I’d be dulled by it a little, but nope. Still shocks me. hahaha
What kind of plant is that in the planter? I can not keep ivy alive as it gets over run with spider mites. I’m tired of pothos. Spider plants are too pointy. That plant seems like it would be perfect.
Oh I love these qt’s tops! They are just right. Now to recall the name… ? Let me go do a search. Okay, I can’t recall but I’ll comment back soon. I’ll ask my mom. She has one too.
Shannon, you are so creative! Love your cute little table! You always have such great accessories!
Thanks Shenita! I do have a few things… lol!!!! SO happy to hear about your magazine feature. That is such wonderful news and you got in the perfect publication.
