Happy New Year Mantel and Banner
Hi Everyone!
This is my first after Christmas post. I hope everyone had a fun, family filled holiday!
I know we had… hang on, my husband is making my laugh and now I have tears in my eyes.
Okay… where was I?
Oh yeah… we had a wonderful holiday.
We all stayed up way too late on Christmas Eve and because of that, I would have to say it’s the latest any of us ever slept in on Christmas morning!
Our morning was nice, mellow & relaxed.
We really took our time opening or gifts.
All were very thoughtfully chosen.
Austin loved all his gifts but his favorite would have to be the new monitor we Jim got him.
Mr. Fox notified me after he ordered it! lol…
He upgraded him to a 24″ screen.
Now, we could probably control NASA between the three of us!
Anyhow…
What I really want to do with this post is share my little mini~mantle refresher!!
I put this together to celebrate the coming New Year.
It Was Fast & Thrifty
Bonus! I did not spend one dime.
The main change took less then 10 minutes
and
The banner was incredibly simple!
Because why???
I am a lazy crafter.
That’s right…
I am a lazy crafter.
{chuckle}
This was the mantle at Christmas, just yesterday.
I took down the Christmas decor then gathered up some of my mercury glass items and other decor that I had used for the holiday.
You might notice, I’m continuing to utilize the same silver trees that were used on the Christmas mantle!
The banner (or) pennant, or bunting whatever you wish to call it is a
“crafter level #1”
with no special tools required!
I cut some sheet music into triangles.
Printed the “2012” numbers out on my home printer.
I then glue gunned (is that proper terminology?)
the sheer black ribbon onto the paper, following with some aqua satin ribbon on top.
(I trimmed each side up to fit the paper after gluing)
You could use any color combo to personalize!
I added some foam pop up dots in the center to add some depth, then placed the numbers on top.
I’ll tell you, that some more of that Dollar Tree silver tinsel garland sure came in handy! What a great investment.
I just added a thin bead of glue along the top of the paper and laid the garland on it, pressing down.
I then placed it between the two trees as my anchors.
I bought this ornament a few years ago and I have not put it away since!
It just floats around, always seeming to land somewhere…
So, there you have it.
Our Happy New Year 2012

Super cute!! I unplugged all the lights. The dead as a doornail tree has hitched a ride on the trash truck and the outside lights are put away. Walked thru HomeGoods and remembered that after Christmas is always bad because they start putting out fresh new stuff and I always want ALL of it!;)
