Sorry mom. But sometimes “suck” just sums it up.
Once upon a time, you could share something in your status on Facebook, and everyone who “liked” or “followed” your page, would see it. (Well, a really good percentage anyhow)
It was just like a fairy tale.
Then… things changed, and kept changing, until little by little, :poof: the magic was gone. An evil villain had came along and decided to implement new algorithms to decide what you would see.
Which basically means that hardly anyone who likes your page, is seeing your updates.
(all driven by greed of course in the hopes you would pay to have your status update seen)
Yeah. So not going to happen.
Do I look like a major corporation?
Anyhow. I miss it. Those good ole’ days when I could share a funny video, a gorgeous room, a new recipe.. a favorite blogger I thought you might enjoy… and you would SEE it… and we would talk, and comment back and forth and interact. Like a bunch of Disney Princesses living the dream. haha
Interaction, the whole entire reason I started my Fox Hollow Cottage Facebooke page in the first place. For that ability to connect. To create and foster relationships with my readers and people who enjoyed some of the same things I do. In sort of real time. For chitty-chat aside from comments on the blog. From other cities, states and even countries. It was fun to be engaged with the people who read my blog.
Well. Last week I decided I would just share some of the things that I see during the week and would have in the past shared on Facebook, here on the blog instead!
It might not be your thing and that is fine, just pass on by.. I will STILL be sharing my personal DIY Projects, Crafts, Tutorial, Home Decor and our goings-on her at the hollow.
Here are a few of the things that caught my eye this week:
I’m going to start with something I saw today and work my way back.
This photograph, and more specifically, this Fall wreath made my pulse quicken a bit. I instantly wondered what magazine it was from and did a double take when I saw it was from Anne at On Sutton Place. I should not have been surprised, this girl is good! The mood that is captured really spoke to me of Autumn.

Next up I want to share Ashley from Lil Blue Boo. I laugh out loud at some of her hilarious Elf On The Self Antics… and she makes my cry with her insights and open sharing of her life, cancer journey and beyond. I am touched and left thinking when I read her thoughts. She puts into words so many emotions I feel.. and am lousy at expressing.
Like in this post; “I could have said No.”
I sold the Aqua Ombre Chest at the Marshfield Vintage Market. She got a brand fresh coat of paint and wax, and all the hardware tightened up and off she went. I hope she likes her new home. I’d been mentally letting go of her for some time. I had considered redoing the ombre in white, cream and gold… but I didn’t have the heart to paint over the aqua. I’m such a softy. It was not the most versatile piece of furniture I own and only fit properly in two places. That doesn’t cut it in my little house, so I let her go.
I did hold myself back from breaking into a terrible rendition of “and I… will always love you… “ as they carried her off.
One, I didn’t want poor Whitney turning in her grave.
… and two, because I didn’t want them to ask me to leave.
Guys, I can. Not. Sing.

Timewashed. Cutest pumpkin creations. The end.
She does a coastal version too! Yes please.
I saved a few real pumpkin stems last year and I want to try making some foxy’fied version of my own this year. I guess I did sort of make fabric pumpkins last year, with a cheater twist of course, since I like cheap and easy.

I actually did share this little gem, that after reading I didn’t agree with. The mags idea of Deep Cleaning and mine is very different. Making my bed is not deep cleaning in my book. Baseboards, windows & screens, pulling the fridge out, moving furniture… that is deep cleaning. This was more fluff stuff in my opinion. Like doing the dishes? Well heck, then we deep clean daily.

After a lot of thought, and careful consideration, I’m stepping away from being a Maison Blanche Paint Company retailer. I simply don’t have the time it deserves and with only so many hours in the day, I have to let it go. Are you singing the theme song from Frozen now? Sorry about that.. anyhow, it was a really hard choice that I wrestled with. I have a deep respect of owner Annie Omar’s talent and adore her entire product line. I will continue to use it, and I get as excited as you do when she release new products. In fact, I should have more time to play and share some of the brilliant new things she’s just released with you now. Maison Blanche will always hold a special place in my heart. Always.
I want to thank you all for your support over the years. It’s been a pleasure and privilege to serve you.
I’ll share more information on product close-outs at a later date.
To sad to sign off with?
Well how about this?
We totally do Zombie humor here. I live with boys. It’s catching.
Next time, I’m going to save-it-as-I-see-it because I see tons of stuff throughout the week I want to share, and when I sat down to gather it all up, I couldn’t find it… or I forgot. I’ll still be on Facebook, because I hold out hope, I’m just not going to pour my heart into it anymore and expect anyone to see it.
Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday weekend. I just completed a few projects that had deadlines and I’m feeling FREE and ready to create whatever I feel like and whenever the mood strikes me. We are doing a big, family BBQ on Monday, I’ll be back in the swing sharing and dipping my toe into the F-word pool.
Have a safe and happy Labor Day.
Hugs-n-Stuff!!
yeah. this resonates.

Thank you a million times for including my wreath. You are the best. 🙂 Several months ago I finally had to “make the break” from Facebook. I just had to let it go. It was so frustrating and no matter what I did or how hard I tried there were no results. When I stopped obsessing is when things got easier. I post when I want and what I want. My page is growing steadily too. I don’t worry about posting time, post type or anything else. My page is purely organic. I don’t have a ton of followers but the ones I have engage and that’s enough for me. At the end of the day it makes sense to choose our battles. FB was not one I wanted to fight…mostly because I knew I could not ever win. Anyway, that’s my 2 cents! Again, thanks for the lovely feature. <3
You truly are the Wreath Queen! So beautiful Ann, had to feature it and I love your front door too!!
I know. I have to let go of what was. I just loved my facebook page so much! It was like the pulse of my blog. I got to visit with and really connect, almost in real time, with my readers. I don’t care about how many likes I have, I care that the ones I already have, can no longer seem to see me. But, alas, time to let go fully as well. I do the same, share.. and expect nothing.
I found a simple and reasonable solution to facebook’s stinginess. You can create Interest Lists that you access from your home page. I made one for all the decor blogs I follow on fb. When I go to that list, I see all of the fb posts that you’ve made since the last time I checked the list. Now I don’t miss a thing, and I can check my favorite bloggers’ posts whenever I have time, without having to also wade through the rest of my news feed! It’s a great solution!
I love you. lol!
So smart.
I did encourage people to do that before, but it has been a bit.
Sorry to your mum Shannon… Facebook does SUCK. Actually, I thought of a few other words, but I suspect your mamma would like those even less.
Great post and a nice way to do a round up.
Enjoy your creative time!!
I see so, so much that I want to share in “right now” way, but I’m tired of fighting fb.
So, it’ll be this way.
I love to share people, ideas and fun stuff I see.
(and suck does fit doesn’t it? hehehe)
