Historic Upstate NY Farmhouse Home Tour
Today I’ve got such a treat for you! We get to travel to Rochester, New York and visit my friend Ginny of Maple Creek Market for a special home tour. She and her family live in a historic farmhouse that was built in 1823 – it’s set on some beautiful land, complete with a gorgeous big white barn. It’s a legit, real-deal working farm.
Please welcome Ginny…
Our story began here at Maple Creek twelve years ago. My husband and I left the suburbs of Texas with our four young children for a job relocation. We knew we wanted to buy a home with some land, but a farm wasn’t really on our radar. However, as we were out house-hunting, the “for sale” sign was going up in the front yard of a beautiful white farmhouse.
I squealed with delight when I saw the farm (my husband nearly wrecked the car!). We called for an appointment and saw the home later that day. Needless to say, we thought it would be the perfect place to raise our kids while teaching them the value of hard work. Now, with so many memories of the animals we’ve loved and cared for – cows, chickens, pigs, sheep, horses, and more – plus the pumpkins and organic vegetables we’ve grown, we’re so glad we took a chance on our farm.
My husband and I have recently become “empty nesters” and have worked over the past few months remaking and updating the farmhouse to continue bringing our vision to life. I’d love to share with you a small piece of what life at Maple Creek Market looks like, and where we’re headed. Below, a brief tour through our renovations, plus a sneak peek at future projects!
The first rooms on our list were the master bedroom and bathroom. We decided to remove the 1980’s vanities for a fresh start. Previously, we had removed the blue-flowered wallpaper, given the walls a fresh coat of paint, and ripped up decades-old carpet that had to go. My wonderful father helped me turn two old vintage vanities I found at the flea market into remodeled treasures! We added hammered copper sinks and hardware from Sinkology . The light fixtures also got a glow-up from the folks over at One Stop Lighting. It’s become a bright, happy space, with both modern and vintage mingling!
For the bedroom, we also had wallpaper and carpet to remove. I’ve repainted the walls many times since, but currently I freshened up the space with some white Behr paint and cleaned up the ceiling. I re-purposed two old vintage doors I found, and set them up in my closet with some hardware goodies from Rustica Hardware. I was so excited with how the barn-door and tin accents turned out.
Moving downstairs, I want to take you to the farmhouse living room. When we first bought the house, we took off four layers of wallpaper. Yikes! We made a faux-mantel out of wood from the barns here at Maple Creek. I had Mr. Maple Creek build a centerpiece “wall” out of the same wood for behind the mantel.
We also had plenty of white shag carpet to rip up (!) and we sanded the original pine floors to get back that rustic farmhouse feel.
Right now, the walls are painted white as well, and on the wall beside the windows I created a “chalkboard” wall that I update with each season. It’s become a fun focal point that I can change along with seasonal or holiday décor.
Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen. Talk about a labor of love! I’ve renovated this space almost every year since we bought the farmhouse. It’s come a long way, all though I still have a few last touches I’d like to add.
The cabinets used to be dark cherry, but I replaced several with open shelving and painted the remaining cabinets white.
We put up a new peel n’ stick Weathered Wood backsplash from Stik Wood. Installation was so quick and easy! Both chandeliers in the kitchen space are also from One Stop Lighting. Each add a cozy, farmhouse feel with just the right touch of light above our island and dining room table.
In the original farmhouse, the kitchen was cut off and the original fireplace hidden. We solved this problem by knocking out two walls and resurfacing the fireplace with fieldstone. It’s now one of our favorite areas to gather as a family!
That’s all for now! Thanks for following along on our renovation and remodeling journey. It’s been a long road, but I’m grateful for every new opportunity. One of the best parts is being able to share our farmhouse with the interior design community. I am consistently inspired by the creativity, grit and DIY ethos of the sweet friends I’ve made along the way.

I’d love to see you all again. Blessings, Ginny

Thank you so much for posting Maple Creek Market Farmhouse, what a treat!! I am a native New Englander living in Florida and it reminded me of beautiful Fall days spent driving through the countryside. A great way to start the day.
