Light and Bright Fall Living Room
Happy Fall friends!! I’m popping in for a quick hello to share a bit of Fall here at the cottage. The air is changing and though we’ve been having some of the most glorious weather… the mornings are getting a little bite to them, as are the evenings. But the days? They are something to savor. September & October are so much an extension of Summer in my mind. Because sunshine, and no rain = Summer to me!
And because of that feeling, I’m keeping the house light & bright, while still recognizing the changing of the seasons.
For all you mamas with little ones… you’ll hate the day when there aren’t chubby fingers stealing your decorating candy anymore. My little (okay, grown) candy corn nibbler doesn’t live here anymore… so I just pretend.
I’ve got extra cozy pillows and throws out, but it’s all on the light side. I’ll dig into my deeper shades soon, for now… I’m basking in the sunlight pouring through the windows, and trying to commit it to memory.
The living room is wearing a jute rug again, and I could not be happier.
From the moment I laid that rug down, I loved it. And when I stole it to put under the farm table, I knew immediately I’d made a mistake. Because I loved it there too. So I saved over the Summer, and when they went on sale, I bought another one to replace it. Now it feels like home again.
And yes… I know my Gobble pillow is out a bit early for Thanksgiving… but can you believe, I don’t really have any proper “Fall” pillows??? I know. ME. The pillow hoarder.
Well, I’m going to HomeGoods (where 99% of my pillows are from) this weekend, and if I have any luck at all, I’ll be rectifying that situation. Much to the chagrin of my husband, who is infinitely patient with my collection of home decor… but is starting to question my aforementioned pillow hoarding tendencies.
What? I only have 443.
Just kidding. Subtract about 300.
My mom gave me this little rag doll with the punkin’ belly. Isn’t she the cutest! I guess technically it’s a Jack-O-Lantern belly. But either way, still cute. (Thanks mom!!!!)
Perfectly styled coffee tables, full of all kinds of interesting tidbits, and pretty coffee tables books are so beautiful. I just love them. I see them on Instagram all the time, they draw me in! But, try as I might… I just can’t do it.
I tend towards really simple. Case in point…
Perhaps a little boring to some, but calming to me. I don’t even have anything in my baskets. I just like them. The weave.. the color.. the texture. And, doesn’t that mater the most? That YOU like the things in your home? I think so.
The vase filler I picked up is full of yummy seed pods, and gourds, and it smells divine!
It was a steal for a pretty large bag at only $8.99 (I got it at ROSS) and it makes the whole room smell just like it should during the Fall. I don’t have a real dough bowl, but I faked it with this wood platter. The hurricane candle holders are the mini version of the ones I’ve got [here] over in The Little Cottage guest bedroom.
And… that’s it. For now, from me & my lil Owl.
COMING NEXT WEEK: I’ve got a easy to copy tablescape & the mantel to share on Monday… and the kitchen & sun room on Wednesday. Shoot… next thing you know it’ll be Halloween, and then the big two. Thanksgiving & Christmas. I don’t know where the years go? It feels like we just did all this and were talking about “2017”. I do know, that I am thankful for your visits and friendships. There are a lot of blogs out there… and I appreciate you spending some of your time to read mine, and especially value your comments. xo, Shannon

I love seeing how you beautify your spaces with seasonal decor. The pumpkin rag doll is precious!…Had to laugh at your pillow count…I know someone who just may have that many! Great use of the baskets in the room for the warmth and texture you have achieved so well, yet keeping it so light and bright…Great balance!
Happy Fall Shannon!
Hello dear Shirley, thank you so much! It’s scary when I joke about pillows… and I’m not joking. hahaha. Whoops.
I suppose there are worse things, right? Happiest of Fall seasons to you!!
I’m with you on extending Summer, Shannon!
I keep waking up and thinking, ‘It just CAN”T be fall already.” Usually I am ready to get those totes out of the basement and start redecorating with the darker, vivid colors of autumn. But this year I am not. I LOVE your living room in this post, and what you have done with it! There is plenty of time for Autumn (later). I try to keep it “fall” until Dec. 1st at Blue Willow Cottage! That gives me plenty of time to add touches week to week.
Thank you for letting your readers know where you obtained the “goodies” you use to beautify Fox Hollow Cottage. Your blog is unique, enjoyable, and I am quite addicted to your posts and style! Keep on keepin’ on, PLEASE!
Your friend in Pennsylvania,
Dawn~Lynnette
It’s sunny again today… so still Summer in my heart! It rained on Sunday… and I realized I really, reallllly was not ready. I’m clinging to every sunny day like it’s a lifeline.
Thank you so very much for the extra lovely comment. I love visiting with you all, and hearing your thoughts and perspectives!! ~ Shannon
Love your simplicity, everything is so beautiful. We are in the process of remodeling our house and I am going for simplicity as well. I am not near as good as putting things together as you are so I may steal some of your ideas if you don’t mind. Thank you for sharing!
Oh remodeling is so exciting. Feel free to steal anything you like, it’s why I share 🙂
And I am always trying to improve. Practice in decorating is like anything else, and I think I’ve gotten better in there years I’ve been blogging. I know this, because when I see my first pictures, I cringe! LOL – So keep working that decorating muscle 🙂
Love your pillows. It have a question, where do store them? I have mine stuff wherever there is room
Oh well that is a bit of a problem…. lol
I have them on shelves in a little walk in closet, but I am overflowing.
I need to get rid of some and get them under control.
They are surely my weakness.
I enjoy your blog and want to thank you. Where I live it is Thanksgiving Weekend!
Well Happy Thanksgiving to you up there in Canada 🙂
I wish you a blessed holiday and beautiful weather for it!
I find myself in the same lack of pillows for fall situation, which is unbelievable for me too. Love the gobble till you wobble one! That’s really cute. Thanksgiving is this weekend for us in Canada, so I’m combing the stores for a couple of orange ones. I’m not normally that fond of orange, but most of my house is in shades of blue, and looking at your blog, and others, I’m realizing how well orange goes with blue. So, thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving 🙂 Wishing you luck. I didn’t have any. The one set I liked was $49.99 per pillow, and that wasn’t going to happen. lol
I love blue and orange together! Hope you find some 🙂
Ahhh Shannon it is all so light, bright and beautiful. Love that squirrel candy dish adorable!
Happy Saturday. Have a great weekend.
Kris
I am a sucker for the little animal things. I don’t know why, but I just love that stuff.
Thank you Kris! Happy weekend 🙂
