Getting inspired and making plans for making-over the bathroom.
 
I don’t know about you.. but I get tired of things. Quick. Like paint colors and decor. I love being able to change things up and keep them fresh. I really like feeling in love with my spaces. You know, that feeling when you walk in a room and you sorta sigh and go; “ah“.

Well, this room was not doing that for me anymore! (Excuse the really lousy night time photo). I was tired of the cottage green wall color. My Ivy died, the Orchid kicked the bucket and that pretty glass dish sitting on the right side of my vanity got a hair line crack, and broke! It was all downhill after that, because then, I was “over” the curtains. I started plotting this room redo in my head months ago but finally got the chance to start executing some changes over the last few days.
 
If you’ve been reading me for awhile, then you may have already gotten a gander at what the bathroom looked like when we bought this house.
 
 
Oh yeah. I know you are jealous! You can see more of the original budget bathroom makeover HERE if you didn’t get enough. Well, lucky me! My mom is visiting right now. And she hates to sit still… and likes to help out. You gotta love that! It’s so much more fun to do stuff as a team and everything gets done twice as fast too! The help is certainly welcome.

We started out by removing everything from the bathroom and wiping down all the walls, baseboards and surfaces. I like to start with everything super clean. Nothing like getting lint or hair in your fresh paint, a good pre-cleaning is how to avoid that problem.

I laid out my painting supplies, all ready to go from cottage green to ??? I’m not 100% sure, but it’s very Rain Washed/Sea Salty shade. That bright orange sticker on my Benjamin Moore Natura Paint is the $2 tag. I scored it at Habitat For Humanity. It retails for $43 a gallon.

Loved the paint, it went on creamy as heck. Covered really well and dried fast. It was a dream to work with. I would totally recommend it. Mine is the eggshell finish.

New paint was just a small part of my plan… Which brings me to the biggest change our bathroom will be seeing!

This is my light-bulb moment – my “inspiration”

Meet the mantel…

 

Excuse the decor… we were moving and I threw something up there, just to take an un-naked photo! This is the mantel, as it sat in our last house. It’s been in storage.

So, I had Austin and Jim exhume the mantel from exile and today it’s going to get some much needed “spa time”. Poor baby. It’s far too fabulous (in my eyes!) to be cast aside and stored away gathering dust.

And 5 daddy long leg spiders. Not even kidding!

Even if I have to find an unconventional way to use it. I don’t care. I just want to be able to enjoy it again… and I am not ready to give it up. After 8 years, it’s finally moving back in. As it should!!

Can not wait to share. I am really excited about this. It’s different. And I like that! Sort of like our crazy wood fence board countertop.

    Oooh!! Can’t wait to see it! And actually, I AM jealous. Wait till you see the bathrooms we inherited in our new house! We’ll be getting one up and running for the time being then working on the others. They are bad but the kitchen…. OH BOY! We’re buying our supplies here in CA with my husbands great contacts and lugging them cross country, paint and all!

      Oh we had a definite work to do too. I hear ya. Did you SEE my befores? They are soooo bad. The kitchen too. It was a total gut. Wishing you good diy luck and few surprises!

    I too love that you get tired of things quickly. I thought there was something wrong with me. No, really. I know people who have been in their houses their entire lives and have not changed one thing…not. one. thing! Not even a switch plate cover. I’ve been told that I’m not happy with anything. So phew…I’m ok. There are people like me out there. Can’t wait to see your reveal.

    p.s. my blog is brand new and not fully functioning, but wanted to put it out there. I have no clue how to re-design it. I’m working on it though.
