Our Kitchen Makeover Plans are Happening
It all started last year when our new fridge leaked and damaged our kitchen floor. It got Jim and I thinking that when we replace the kitchen floor and the matching sun room floor, why not get new flooring in the entire upper living area and have everything match? I love it when we “think”.
So… we are getting brand new wood floors.
(I guess as opposed to old used floors?)
Anyhow, I am so excited!!!! Not for the mess and the work, but you know, for the “after” part. We dreamed about it. Okay I dreamed about it. We saved, we’re planning and soon, we’ll purchase!
So, Jim and I have a hot Home Depot date when I return from California. We’ll check out some flooring in person while we are up in Eugene. I’m not trying to rush my visit with my family at all, but it’ll be something extra fun to look forward to when I get home. I hope I don’t get too overwhelmed with choices though!
As we do with most of our projects, we plan and gather information first.
So until then, I’ve been having a ball finding inspiration and checking out reviews online. Maybe that’ll help narrow down what we want to buy knocking a few things out of the running. It usually helps and we like to research before we buy.
I think I might have floors on the brain for a while… you’ve been warned. haha
I love dark floors… and white kitchens!
I know the floors will be in the living room too, but I’m just super focused on the kitchen aspect.
So obvious in my: “Cottage Farmhouse Kitchens” post.
and here in my: Kitchen Love Pinterest Board
I think we’ll peek at sinks while we are out shopping too. Ours has just taken a beating. The bottom is so scratched and the finish is worn off. I’ve had stainless and porcelain and frankly, I am pretty torn as to what to replace it with.
What do you guys have? Do you like it, and if so why?
I like this, it’s a beauty. It’s about twice what ours cost. I wonder if it would last twice as long?
Well, actually, what I REALLY like is this… but that is a whole nother can of worms!!!
We are not talking new counter tops. Yet {winks}
More a “dream” sink then a realistic option. I’ll settle for one with no scratches.
So that is my exciting (to us) news.
New floors… and (hopefully) a new sink.
and new hardware… and a few new light fixtures. lol
All in time though. Right? It’s fun to have things to look forward to.
If my house was perfect. I think I would be dreadfully bored!!!!
But I feel like I need to pinch myself. I can’t believe I’m going to have a pretty, dark wood floor in my kitchen. If I think about having it in the living room… and over by the fireplace too, I might just pop!
As always, thanks for stopping by!!
I’ll be sharing my favorite room tomorrow with Kim at Savvy Southern Style.
Stop in and say Hello! if you get a chance.

I know! We’ll see what I can get away with… I am so bad!! Maybe the ceilings re done? That would be smart before the floors. I’ve got such a wish list, bu it’s great to ahve things to look forward too.

Shannon, I saw your kitchen over at Savy Southern Style & it is so great! I loved the countertops, all the light , backsplash & your white rooster! Also love the chalkboard stencil. I thought it would look neat if you stenciled a chalk chandelier on the right side to mimic your chandy…lower than your real one…just. A thought. I wouldn’t be in a hurry to paint your cupboards. If you want more white you could put white breadboard wallpaper inside the rectangles created by the frame. Will be taking a look around your blog & hopefully see more of your charming home 🙂

Hi Suzi! That is such a cute idea with the chandy stencil. I love it!!!!

Can’t wait to see what you do with the floors! We have hard wood through our 1st floor, and especially love it in my kitchen. Speaking of love, that sink!!!!

Karen, Are they original to the home or did your guys install? We are going to start looking at brands, styles, etc.. when I get home (:

How exciting, Shannon!!!! Can’t wait to see the after. I know all the work will be insane, but the after will be well worth it!! Have fun in Cali with your family, Lilo! 😀

Hey sweetie!! Thanks!! We still have to shop for them, then do all the “work” part. I’m sure it’ll take a bit, but I know I am going to LOVE the after. How is the hall entry closet area coming?? Shan

ohhh I’m excited FOR you! I absolutely love the look of DARK wood with a WHITE kitchen. It’s so dramatic and stunning. I can’t wait to see what you guys choose. Whatever it is it’s going to look amazing I am certain of it!

Congrats on the new floors. We put in dark espresso bamboo from Lumber Liquidators and installed them ourselves. They look amazing. You will love whatever you get. So easy to clean. I have a horrible stainless steel sink. I hate it. I’ve had my eye on a black granite sink. Sigh…someday. Can’t wait to see the finished kitchen.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Kathleen, Was it a click-n-lock style or glue down? I need to research that aspect! Bet they are gorgeous!!
