One Dollar Thanksgiving Table Runner
This year, instead of waiting until the last minute to get my table together, I figured I would be proactive and gather up a few things I think I might use. I’m really glad I did because the crochet table cloth I planned to use doesn’t fit with the leaf in the farm table! Uh Oh. Glad I caught that early. Plan B here I come.
I was determined not to buy a tablecloth. Mostly because I have the hardest time finding them at a price I’m willing to pay! I improvised with some creamy gauze fabric that was a window treatment in it’s past life and added some wrapping/craft paper from the Dollar Tree as a “runner”. I knew I would find something to do with that when I picked it up. I just didn’t know it would be saving the day.
1. Simply lay down your base fabric or cloth, center your paper and unroll.
2. Cut to proper length, tuck under the edge and push-pin into place. The day is saved.
Now, scratch your head and try to think of what you’ll use as an inexpensive centerpiece. Hmm ?
I figure the more I do now the better, and I love fresh flowers, I do!! But, if I could get away with using something I’ve got I would prefer that. So I scrubbed up a neat little 3-pc shutter I got at Habitat For Humanity and laid that right down the center of the table.
I have nine pumpkins that escaped carving for Halloween (don’t really know what happened there?) so I piled some pumpkins on top of the shutters. It might not make the final cut, but it’ll do if I don’t think of anything better! The pumpkins are definitely going to need some sprucing up if they are going to stick around. I see some gold in their future.
At least the stems anyhow. They need some sparklyness.

I sure would like to know what I did with my cups and saucers? I can only find one saucer and three cups from a service for 8? What the heck. I have no idea where I stashed them. I’ve got 3 weeks to find them though, or everyone is going to be drinking after dinner coffee in… well, I just have to find them!
Speaking of coffee, I am going to have something FUN coming up real soon that involves the C word and I know you guys are going to L word it. Can’t wait!!
Hope you like my one dollar Thanksgiving table runner trick. You all know I am cheap and easy… and I’ve got to say this is probably one of the cheapest, easiest fixes I’ve come across so far.
Happy to share!!

Oh, this is so smart! Gosh, I wish I could come up with these ideas!! Looks fabulous!~~Angela
Shannon this is so fun and I love that you used craft paper. Genius! Here I thought I was doing great with my $5 table runner but $1?? That is awesome. Your adorable squirrels need to come play with my cute turkey spreaders, btw.
Love this and pinning!!
I bought 2 rolls awhile back. Months ago and set them aside. When my crochet tc didn’t fit I was like… Hmm? I’ll do about anything to NOT go to the store when I don’t want too. LOL :)))
I’m trying to remember now if my tablecloth will fit my new table! We didn’t have that last Thanksgiving. And do I usually have a centerpiece or is it just butter? I need some cute squirrels I think to go with the butter dish.
Hahahaha… “Is it just butter?”
Butter works for me. I’m coming to your house. You have your priorities straight!!
You are one clever girilie! I just love your table. Cute little shutter with the pumpkins too!
Thanks Debbie!! I’ve had that shutter on my upper cabinet in the kitchen and I just went right over there and snatched it 😉
I love this idea shannon.
