Open Cabinets in a Cottage Kitchen
I recently ripped the doors off my cabinets.
And I could not be happier.
And the Dollar Tree
Shelf Liner on the Cabinet Backs,
Well… it Makes Me Smile!
I recently shared our
Cottage Style Budget Kitchen Makeover.
Today I want to share a few
before & after photos I took while giving our kitchen a little re’fresher.
{by removing our glass front cabinet doors}
I have never taken many photos of this section of the kitchen… and I finally realized why.
I have never liked the upper cabinets, or more precisely, the glass front cabinet doors!
I had been mulling over a few knobs styles, different decor, painting the backs, etc…
Oh.
for Years!
{sadly, I am completely serious!}
Then, one evening, I decided it was time for a change!
Because things just hit me like that.
I know you understand!
fat “F” on my project.
I have no “taking the doors off pictures”.
I was doing it alone though and I didn’t want to break any glass while unscrewing the doors and taking them off.
Safety First!
Right?
I was pretty sure I liked it right away.
It was still blah though.
Like.
SUPER BLAH.
I knew I did not want to commit to a permanent paint color on the back.
Hello? I am notoriously neutral. lol.
Yep, even with my love of aqua.
I had 2 rolls of shelf liner on hand that I had picked up at the Dollar Tree.
I intended to line some shelves with it.
Because that is what it’s for.
Funny thing…
LAURA from Our Prairie Home
had just done a fabulous makeover on her
Shabby Farmhouse China Cabinet
and had lined the back of it
with the same exact paper.
So…
I was going to look like a
gigantic copycat if I did the same thing.
Here’s the thing though,
I am cheap.
(or “frugal” says my mom)
And it was such a thrifty solution.
Lucky me, Laura loves me and didn’t mind.
So, I decided to give it a shot.
As it measured out, it took 6 rolls.
That means $6 bucksfor the whole project.
Sweet!
I pretty much went with my favorites!
Thrifted silver & lots of white.
I thoroughly enjoy
getting to actually SEE what is on
my upper cabinet shelves now.
I took off my glass front cabinet doors.
Lined the backs.
… and I feel like I have a new kitchen.
$6 dollars and a little bit of my time.
A pretty good deal.
Appearance in full on any site other then Fox Hollow Cottage is theft!
I love it I love the paper. It looks so soft but adds so much. I love all your displays. Good Job!

I love it! Green with white is one of my favorite combinations. The pattern on the liner is so fresh and chic….you sure got a lot of bang for your buck!

Boy, I’m waaaaaay behind. Totally missed this last week. (You posted it when I was fighting my Welcome sign. HA HA HA)
Shannon… It looks FABULOUS! I’m so jealous! Think Imma have to come to your house and nonchalantly stuff it all in my pocket on my way out. 😉
And besides… You didn’t copy. We collaborated. We SHARED. My momma always taught me to share with my FRIENDS. 😉 And I’m so happy that it looks so fantastic! Thanks for the shout out for me, but you didn’t have to. You’re such a sweetie!
I know you’re totally enjoying them. With that gorgeous chandy, do you just sit in your kitchen and gaze at it for hours? LOL I totally would. 🙂
Love ya!

I love it! I love the shelves and what you did. I’m tempted to do this in my kitchen. I just love the look. Well and of course you decorated your shelves in a beautiful way…that helps! Hahaha…it wouldn’t look good with sippy cups and plastic lids! hahaha…
Great job.
Blessings,
debbie
What a beautiful job you did! I just found your blog & am a new follower. It’s so lovely!

OMG OMG!! 2 things – first, I LOVE IT – looks fabulous! and second, I just lined a bookshelf last week with the EXACT same paper, but bought mine at Target!! I SWEAR it’s the same paper! Guess I could’ve save a couple bucks;) I’m going to blog about it sometime this week – too funny! Your cabinets looks so so great!
I love the look and I love how you took us through a step by step. You have me playing on picmonkey too, but I just can’t get off there once I start LOL1
Oh no, she’s making trouble again! LOL I have a feeling one day, some day soon, I’m going to be thinking about taking the glass doors off my cabinets too!
I think it looks fabulous! And…I love that you used the shelf paper. I painted the backs of my cabinets to match the wall color & that was not a fun job at all. I should have used shelf paper instead!
Love the open cabinets and the color/pattern back splash you chose. So gorg. WELL DONE! winks, jen
This looks so great! I love the paper you used.Good taste has nothing to do with money.
I would say a fabulous deal! Just gorgeous!

Shannon, your cabinets are gorgeous without the doors! The lining against the back looks great too!
Hey, I will probably be copy catting your copy cat soon! Thanks for sharing this great idea. I saw your post at “Meet Me Monday”.
$6 or you kidding me? I love it! It looks great and I may find something to use it on, I’ll be copying you and Laura~I’m bad like that!
Another fab makeover!
It really looks so custom!
