Open Cabinets in a Cottage Kitchen
I recently ripped the doors off my cabinets.
And I could not be happier.
And the Dollar Tree
Shelf Liner on the Cabinet Backs,
Well… it Makes Me Smile!
I recently shared our
Cottage Style Budget Kitchen Makeover.
Today I want to share a few
before & after photos I took while giving our kitchen a little re’fresher.
{by removing our glass front cabinet doors}
I have never taken many photos of this section of the kitchen… and I finally realized why.
I have never liked the upper cabinets, or more precisely, the glass front cabinet doors!
I had been mulling over a few knobs styles, different decor, painting the backs, etc…
Oh.
for Years!
{sadly, I am completely serious!}
Then, one evening, I decided it was time for a change!
Because things just hit me like that.
I know you understand!
fat “F” on my project.
I have no “taking the doors off pictures”.
I was doing it alone though and I didn’t want to break any glass while unscrewing the doors and taking them off.
Safety First!
Right?
I was pretty sure I liked it right away.
It was still blah though.
Like.
SUPER BLAH.
I knew I did not want to commit to a permanent paint color on the back.
Hello? I am notoriously neutral. lol.
Yep, even with my love of aqua.
I had 2 rolls of shelf liner on hand that I had picked up at the Dollar Tree.
I intended to line some shelves with it.
Because that is what it’s for.
Funny thing…
LAURA from Our Prairie Home
had just done a fabulous makeover on her
Shabby Farmhouse China Cabinet
and had lined the back of it
with the same exact paper.
So…
I was going to look like a
gigantic copycat if I did the same thing.
Here’s the thing though,
I am cheap.
(or “frugal” says my mom)
And it was such a thrifty solution.
Lucky me, Laura loves me and didn’t mind.
So, I decided to give it a shot.
As it measured out, it took 6 rolls.
That means $6 bucksfor the whole project.
Sweet!
I pretty much went with my favorites!
Thrifted silver & lots of white.
I thoroughly enjoy
getting to actually SEE what is on
my upper cabinet shelves now.
I took off my glass front cabinet doors.
Lined the backs.
… and I feel like I have a new kitchen.
$6 dollars and a little bit of my time.
A pretty good deal.
Appearance in full on any site other then Fox Hollow Cottage is theft!

I love what you did, I did the same thing with a shallow pantry. Great job, thanks for sharing.

Hi Shannon! I am a new reader, creating over at http://www.twelveoeight.blogspot.com/, I love the lined shelves with the doors off. This turned out really beautiful and I think I need to head over to the dollar store soon 🙂

Love that look! I think it’s ok to copy what you see elsewhere. That’s part of the fun of blogging isn’t it? We all get ideas from each other. Otherwise, what’s the point? I have open shelving like that in my kitchen too and wouldn’t trade it. I love how you added the paper to the back.

This is so cute! And beautiful, and clever, and I can’t think of enough adjectives to describe how wonderful it is. I want to do this with my kitchen somewhere, but I have to wait until I am past the mixed dish stage. I still have plastic plates mixed with two plates we bought when we were married, and the rest plain white. I don’t even want to start on the cupboard where my glasses are…….

Love it! I have said it before 🙂
So….I scoured every aisle of my Dollar Tree–no shelf paper (sad face) but they have almost the same paper at Target–just of course, for more $!
Looks fantastic!

I love this idea, but wondering if the shelf liner had a peel off sticky back and this is how you hung it to the back or did you have to hang it like wallpaper?
