Organize Your Closet With 10 Things For Under $100
This isn’t a fancy closet makeover. It’s a real-life, everyday person, budget friendly way to tame your closet chaos with hard-working organizers that’ll do the job without costing a fortune.
For those of you that are visiting Fox Hollow Cottage for the first time, hello & welcome!! My name is Shannon and I’m a Brand Ambassador for the Better Homes and Gardens line at Walmart. Today’s post is all about our January challenge, which is to share an organizational project with you. I don’t know about you, but there is always something to organize at my house so I was eager to tackle the challenge.
In fact, I dove right into this one and I finished it before Christmas, so I’ve been about popping to share it with you!! Usually when I finish something I take pictures right away and race to the computer to get a post together so I can show you. It’s all very much in real-time when I share. Mostly because I can’t want to show y’all as soon as I’m done. I’m like a little kid that way. I guess I better get to the sharing part then right? Are you ready to see what I started with. It wasn’t super-bad… but it wasn’t good either! No judging please.
The main problem, was that my closet lacked a place for everything. With the right organizational elements, I knew this problem could be remedied!
I may have had a few too many things too… and that resulted in lots of my clean laundry living in piles & in laundry baskets… with nothing ever being entirely put away because there was simply no where to “put it away” to. Which would never fly anywhere else in my home, but I somehow ignored it on my side of the bedroom? Always seeming to having something more pressing to take care of. It was never the top priority on my to-do list… so sadly it kept getting ignored. Hubby has his own closet and a large armoire so this is just my mess! … and yes I have boob lights, it’s a basement level room and I can touch the ceiling. Sorry, you won’t be dazzled by any chandeliers in this closet.
More than anything else in the house, my closet desperately needed to be addressed!! I was thrilled that I was nudged when this challenge came along!! I desperately needed the push. I did a little purging first. Next I picked up 10 organizational items I thought would do the trick to get my closet in shape.
Bonus? I didn’t even spend 100 dollars — it was closer to 80 something. My budget can handle that and I bet yours can too.
THE HUB: The center of the closet changed the most. I pretty much made it the HUB and used 7 of the 10 new organizing elements there. Streamlining what I keep in the HUB and adjusting it seasonally will help the closet continue to function well.
Kind of like a capsule wardrobe effect.
The HUB is housing:
-
Jeans
-
Bras – medium storage box, top shelf
-
Maxi Dresses – a must, they only fit here
-
Austin’s Cap & Gown – well protected now
-
Scarves – this is my favorite new storage solution
-
Black Pashmina
-
Ivory Pashmina
-
Winter Wear
-
Hanging Organizer
-
Small & Large Storage Boxes
I roll my sweaters so that they retain their shape, and this stacked organizer is the perfect place to keep my favorites within easy reach!
SHOES: You won’t find any great insight on what to do with your shoes in this post, because I don’t store mine in my closet. We’ve got a separate location for our families footwear since we don’t wear our shoes in the house.
This organizing piece is actually intended for shoe storage, but I visualized it as storage for my scarves. I am thrilled with how well it’s working out. This vertical space-saver will hold 20 scarves, and I can see every single one of them!
What I love about these storage boxes is that they collapse when not in use. I’ve got winter sweaters in the large box and when I don’t need them so easily accessible, I can store them under the bed and put the box away.
I had already started changing over to these slim, velvet hangers months ago. They are another great space-saver and I’m really happy with them. My clothing hangs well on them and they have a no-slip feature and little notches for spaghetti straps.
For some reason… Austin’s cap & gown are living in my closet? Not sure how that happened, but I want to preserve them so I got a garment bag for them and they are well protected now. The cap rests in the bottom of the bag, no problem.
Have I said I think vertical storage rocks yet? Well it DOES. My new 11-compartment hanging beauty is working hard holding my most reached for sweaters & hoodies, plus accessories and 1 pair of shoes (the exception)… all in a perfectly organized fashion.
The compartmentalized box lifts in & out and holds wallets for quick “I need to match my handbag” changes.
My canvas covered rolling shelf flipped sides and it’s now home to all my jammies. I’ve had it forever and it’s always working hard somewhere in the house. It’s last job was holding craft supplies, until I reworked those.
I was even able to slip in a little divided storage for my sunglasses and some of my most-worn jewelry. These guys slid right on top of the canvas shelf and could not fit better if they were made for it!
Plus you don’t have to hunt around for your favorite necklace while your husband is waiting in the car for you, because you said you’d be ready in ten minutes… 20 minutes ago. So really, you are organizing your closet for him.
As hard as I work cleaning and keeping up the rest of the house, I deserved to do this for myself, and I bet you do too. There is no angst or guilt or a frazzled “I really need to get to this feeling” when I walk into our room now. I know me. And I’m so much more mentally relaxed when things are in order. Whether it’s to change clothes, put my laundry away, (which I can do now!) read before bed or simply to sleep… walking into our room feels totally zen now.
And that feels good.
Once I get an area wrangled and everything has a place, I don’t have too much trouble keeping it up. So as long as I don’t go on a crazy shopping spree, my closet should stay neat & tidy for a long time to come.
And that’ll keep my eye from twitching when it’s time for bed.
Meet me over on Facebook or Instagram – I share lots of extras there, like sneak peeks & things that don’t make it on the blog. xo Shannon
Disclosure: as I mentioned earlier, I work in partnership with Better Homes and Gardens. All opinions I share about the BH&G Live Better line from Walmart are mine and I wouldn’t be working with them, or sharing them with you, if I didn’t think they were of good quality and value.

Well done, Shannon! Looks so neat and organized. I need to find time to organize my own closet. Now you’ve inspired me.
Cheers,
Loi
Tone on Tone
It sure feels better!!
Thanks Loi.
Looks fantastic Shannon! I have those hangers too and absolutely love the. Must be so nice to open the closet and say ahhhh…I can find everything now. I need to clean mine out soon. Happy New year my friend. xo
Looks so neat. I’m with you if something is neat and organized I sigh a sigh of relief. Purging clothes has become necessary for me on an annual basis, and I don’t buy new….there must be a problem there. I’m guessing you could find a place to hook that garment bag with the cap and gown along the back wall of the closet. Then totally out of the way. Thanks for sharing. And inspiration.
Your new space looks great. I just organized my shoe room and it always feels good to get things back in order. Happy New Year!
