Our Cottage Home and New Plantation Shutters from blinds.com
At long last, with the new plantation shutters installed, we now have every window in the house properly finished with beautiful window coverings. They are perfect. Just like I knew they would be. They complete our home like nothing else could and I feel so fortunate to have them.
That being said, you know I wouldn’t just show off something pretty and not share!
Blinds.com is offering a $100 credit to two lucky FHC readers! (more on that in a bit)
Now. I’ve talked about all the pros to having plantation shutters and how the new wood floors were begging for something better here, and what we had to do to prep our old house windows to be able to have plantation shutters here. I even shared how easy it was to install them here (you’d be surprised!).. now.. we get to look at how pretty they are.
After we recall the before real quick!
The light blasted through so bad you can’t really can’t see them… but trust me, they were dingy, plastic and tacky, tacky, tacky!
New Plantation Shutters at the Cottage
Say “Hello” to my Norman Woodlore shutters in Pure White.
We put a set of two on both the window in the main living room area.
And a single shutter on each window flanking the front door.
It’s not like we get blazing heat here living on the coast, but when it’s bright.. the light control with these is incredible. The front side of the house gets the brunt of the morning sun and I’m looking forward to the house being cooler in the warm Summer months now that these bad-boys are up! It did take a while to find the right blinds, I spent my time looking at many magazines and websites, looking for the right gallery of blind installations.
I’ve only got them open, pointing down, a weensy little bit in the photo above, and you can see I’m still getting plenty of light pouring in.
I value the privacy and control that shutters offer.
The Pure White is beautiful and the Benjamin Moore Super White trim color is only a pinch brighter.
I just did all that trim, so I won’t be repainting it until it needs it!
I have lots of different shades of white in the room.. so I think it looks okay.
Between the white armoire, the painted velvet chair, the coffee table… the farmhouse cabinet, the arched mirror, the console table… well, you get it. A lot of whites!
I’ve yet to get anything in that wood & screen terrarium I picked up at HomeGoods… sometimes, I like things really plain and simple.
I know. Me? The glitter lover. I think I like the airiness of it empty.
Hey, let me open up the cabinet for you so you can get a better look!
I’ve got a little this & that inside.
It’s pretty much a big mix of garage sale, vintage and HomeGoods finds.
I’m being serious when I say this is the first time my house has been put back together all at the same time since I embarked on the “Epic room flip” back in the middle of February. So two months. Yeah. It’s not all glitter and Champagne over here.
Okay.
It’s often glittery.
But y’all know what a mess that is.
This little cabinet needs a second coat of Magnolia (I was covering bright red!) and a fun color on it’s insides.
You know me though… a ton of Maison Blanche Vintage Paint colors to choose from, and I can’t pick one!
I might over think things on occasion…
(psst.. I totally over think things!)
Okay, enough about me… now for the GIVEAWAY!

I always like to throw in a reminder of where we started. There is no TV magic going on here. Each project takes a lot of time, saving and hard work to make over an old house. It’s so very worth it though! Every change and improvement is so appreciated and valued.
Visit here for all our before & afters.
Be warned, some are pretty scary!

Your shutters are beautiful. You have a knock out room, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much!!
I just bought a house and could really use this. I love plantation shutters!
Congratulations!! (and good luck)
Your home is so wonderfully beautiful. It is just so crisp and clean looking. I just had my living
room, dining room, foyer and second story hall painted. A tornado of a mess is still going on
around here. There is a tunnel somewhere with a light at the end. I need to purge more things
and then decorate. It is all so time consuming. Your rooms look awesome and I am using them
for inspiration! So there!
Oh that sounds really exciting and I so understand the mess part! I make the BIGGEST messes while I do all this. I really do. That is why I made sure to mention it’s the first time since mid-February I’ve had everything put back together. Man, it feels good though. I know it will for you as well. It’s not like on TV. Poof. Done. lol. Hang in there!!
I should just hire you to come do my whole house. I’m amazed at all the beauty you bring to a home.
Did you catch the part where I take 2 months?
I make a mess girl 😉
But you might could bribe me in soap…
It’s so awesome of you to share the love with a giveaway! The blinds are, quite simply, stunning. Amazing room for sure!
Thank you so much Ann. You know, I couldn’t just show mine and not have something to offer. It just would not feel right. I’m so glad blinds dot com is generous.
They have made such a dramatic difference to your home! It looks looks so luxurious! When am I invited over? 🙂
Hi Brandi! Anytime qt. Just bring your talent along and I’ll keep you busy!! Thanks, I love how it pulled everything together.
Love the look of your new shutters. Building chippendale railings for our porch with my husband ended up not being as complicated as I thought it would be.
Isn’t it funny how we get these ideas in ours heads? Although.. sometimes I think something will be super easy. And then, not so much. lol!
Hi Shannon, Love the shutters. Also love the shutter lantern. Good work….
Thank you! Isn’t that fun? Got that at HomeGoods, in aqua. I could not decide? lol
Your house is beautiful. The shutters are the finishing touch 🙂
Thank you so much!!
Your home and blinds look amazing! I would love to win. Thanks for the chance!
Debbie
Luck Debbie XX and thank you!
Love your plantation shutters! I am drooling over that planter on that chippy pink board too. I haven’t done any dyi projects lately, so can’t really answer the question for the giveaway.
This is fine! You are entered. I hope you tried a couple other ways too 😉 And thank you. I got that so many years ago, I don’t think I even remember where I pickled that up??? I know it had little tin cups. They got rusty after a few years. I painted it and did the mason jars and it’s indoors only now.
Love how the shutters turned out! Want to put these in my house sometime. Your house looks wonderful!! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
Thanks for stopping in. And good luck!!
Yes, I was surprised at how easy it was to change out some leaking waterlines in my bathroom.
We made some nice built in cabinets for our bedroom and they were much easier to do than I expected.
Oh that sounds very nice Teri.
I love built ins. That is something I’ve never attempted.
Luck in the giveaway.
I have been wanting plantation blinds for years. This will be a good way to get me started toward getting them. They look so nice in your house.
Much luck in the giveaway!!
I have been contemplating replacing my old blinds with Plantation Shutters forever, but never have because of concern about install difficulty. Thanks for your post. I’m inspired!
