Our Cottage Home and New Plantation Shutters from blinds.com
At long last, with the new plantation shutters installed, we now have every window in the house properly finished with beautiful window coverings. They are perfect. Just like I knew they would be. They complete our home like nothing else could and I feel so fortunate to have them.
That being said, you know I wouldn’t just show off something pretty and not share!
Blinds.com is offering a $100 credit to two lucky FHC readers! (more on that in a bit)
Now. I’ve talked about all the pros to having plantation shutters and how the new wood floors were begging for something better here, and what we had to do to prep our old house windows to be able to have plantation shutters here. I even shared how easy it was to install them here (you’d be surprised!).. now.. we get to look at how pretty they are.
After we recall the before real quick!
The light blasted through so bad you can’t really can’t see them… but trust me, they were dingy, plastic and tacky, tacky, tacky!
New Plantation Shutters at the Cottage
Say “Hello” to my Norman Woodlore shutters in Pure White.
We put a set of two on both the window in the main living room area.
And a single shutter on each window flanking the front door.
It’s not like we get blazing heat here living on the coast, but when it’s bright.. the light control with these is incredible. The front side of the house gets the brunt of the morning sun and I’m looking forward to the house being cooler in the warm Summer months now that these bad-boys are up! It did take a while to find the right blinds, I spent my time looking at many magazines and websites, looking for the right gallery of blind installations.
I’ve only got them open, pointing down, a weensy little bit in the photo above, and you can see I’m still getting plenty of light pouring in.
I value the privacy and control that shutters offer.
The Pure White is beautiful and the Benjamin Moore Super White trim color is only a pinch brighter.
I just did all that trim, so I won’t be repainting it until it needs it!
I have lots of different shades of white in the room.. so I think it looks okay.
Between the white armoire, the painted velvet chair, the coffee table… the farmhouse cabinet, the arched mirror, the console table… well, you get it. A lot of whites!
I’ve yet to get anything in that wood & screen terrarium I picked up at HomeGoods… sometimes, I like things really plain and simple.
I know. Me? The glitter lover. I think I like the airiness of it empty.
Hey, let me open up the cabinet for you so you can get a better look!
I’ve got a little this & that inside.
It’s pretty much a big mix of garage sale, vintage and HomeGoods finds.
I’m being serious when I say this is the first time my house has been put back together all at the same time since I embarked on the “Epic room flip” back in the middle of February. So two months. Yeah. It’s not all glitter and Champagne over here.
Okay.
It’s often glittery.
But y’all know what a mess that is.
This little cabinet needs a second coat of Magnolia (I was covering bright red!) and a fun color on it’s insides.
You know me though… a ton of Maison Blanche Vintage Paint colors to choose from, and I can’t pick one!
I might over think things on occasion…
(psst.. I totally over think things!)
Okay, enough about me… now for the GIVEAWAY!

I always like to throw in a reminder of where we started. There is no TV magic going on here. Each project takes a lot of time, saving and hard work to make over an old house. It’s so very worth it though! Every change and improvement is so appreciated and valued.
Visit here for all our before & afters.
Be warned, some are pretty scary!

Making a dress for my niece… I thought about it for so long and I was afraid to make that first cut into the fabric. Once I did though, it all came together so beautifully. She loved it and so did I!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Oh, that is a wonderful story. I would be nervous to. The cutting of fabric. Glad it all turned out so well!!

Your room is gorgeous Shannon! Those blinds are beautiful. I can’t even see the difference in the whites, and you are right, mixing different shades of white looks wonderful. I love how you styled your cabinet!

I think my craftroom has been a challenge. It is a bigger job than I thought it would be.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
That makes sense, there is so much little stuff with crafting. Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be pleased once it is complete (:
