Patriotic Summer Cottage Living Room
Our little cottage is living large with patriotic style! Dressed in red, white and navy with a little bit of a nautical/coastal vibe, we are celebrating the Summer season and America with a little new and a lot of vintage.
Of course, today’s post should be titled; “If you give Shannon a New Kitchen Table”… because you know me, it’s like a Domino effect over here. Between moving things around when company came (we had sofa sleeping going on since The Little Cottage isn’t done yet) and bringing home a new piece of furniture, I was shifting and flipping furniture and putting things back together after my company left. What better time to freshen things up? It’ll be a bit before I share the new table with you because it needs paint. And some chairs.
I know. You’d think we were living like heathens over here.
I’ll tell you more about the new table later, but for now. The butterfly table is acting as a sofa table. And the sofa table slipped into the living room. I shifted some décor around and next thing you knew, it all felt fresh and new!
And speaking of fresh & new… I created a video for you. I hope you like it. If so, please let me know and I’ll continue to dabble and make more, maybe even some video tutorials? Who knows… I could go wild.
.
I made sure to include some still photos as well. It’s feeling so summery and festive. I added some new things and did lots of shifting. I just can’t put the red, white & blue away until after the 4th. I promise you’ll see some aqua soon.
Until then…
Annie will take you on the tour.
I layered some old shutter on the table top in front of my big mirror. The light still bounces around and I loved the vibe with the rope wrapped hurricane and the beat-up old tin basket.
The sea grass is perfect for summertime and I put those little US flags just about everywhere this time of year.
I knew I was going to love the DIY Picture Ledge Shelves [click for tutorial] I made the minute I put them up! I’ve already changed up the art and moved things around. They are so me & so handy!
I always look forward to bringing out my bottle brush trees every year. The red, white & blue is so fun. I really lucked-out when I ran across them.
I like to leave what is on the beach, on the beach. So I purchased my “driftwood” at HomeGoods. It was a garland, and I took it apart to use as vase filler. Making it super thrifty.
The smaller of the two trees got paired with an old pickle jar, stuffed with saltwater taffy.
Scratch that, it was stuffed… but Austin really likes it.
A few pinwheels have this corner feeling super stars and stripestastic!
I’ve got a super soft quilt throw in the big chair. It’s perfect for flopping and reading, or getting cozy at night and catching up on mind rotting television shows when I want to zone out!
I can’t get enough of this little guy! He is just so dang cute.
I hope you enjoyed peeking in at the cottage today! And please remember to let me know how you liked the video? I’m looking forward to hearing what you think.
xoxo Shannon

At last! Someone with real extpseire gives us the answer. Thanks!
Ok, that new? pillow and throw both in blue and white are awesome, I love them, but darn it anyhow, I’ve gotta get me a jar filled with taffy now!
Love the patriotic decor and the video! What did you use to make the video? Thanks!
Thank you! I used Windows live movie maker.
Shannon the video was awesome! Great job – you have an artists eye. That newspaper hat on the vintage bear was just perfect (I’ll have to remember that). Love the compass pillow – it would work very well in my beach house – (I’m trying to incorporate some navy with my aqua to ground the room a because my floors are light). I see you have my favorite scale out – looks terrific with the vintage pick up truck. Those bottle brushes really add the finishing touch. Lots of ideas to take away here!
Terri, Thanks so much!! Oh I like aqua with navy, it make the aqua a little more serious. They look great together. So many great color combos. Too much fun, I want them all 🙂 lol – Happy weekend!
Loved the video! Please keep them coming… It’s so fun to see what you’re going to next with each of your rooms. Your ideas, are things I would never think of. Thanks for sharing… I look forward to each and every FOX HOLLOW COTTAGE email!!!
Hi Cindy, Thank you so much for your kind words and enthusiasm 🙂 I’m so glad to know you enjoy what I share, and I’ll definitely work some videos into future posts!! Happy Summer.
Super cute, Shannon!
I loved your video. So many cute touches you have there (like the whale book ends) I liked the music, too. 🙂 You have great style.
Thank you Elisabeth, I’m so glad you liked the video! (and the music) Have a wonderful weekend.
I love your red, white and blue décor!!! your decorating style is sooo awesome!! Great video too!!
Thanks Kathy! It’s so easy to pop some little flags here and there and mix in some red. It feels so festive. Have a wonderful 4th holiday!
very festive in an understated way….next year I will be festive….this year we are living in a construction zone…..
Oh girl. Been there. One year, Christmas was a tiny fake tree and one tote full of decor. That was it. Austin was little, and all that really mattered was making sure Santa could find us 🙂
What a lovely room! So fun with all your red, white and blue. Gave me some ideas for some of my things. I enjoyed the video so thanks for sharing that! I would like to see more! Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks for the feedback Robyn! Super. Glad to hear you got an idea or two. That is what I love to hear 🙂
