Project Linen Closet Reveal {pretty and organized!}

I’m Pretty Excited To Share My Newly Organized Linen Closet With You Today! One reason I’m excited is because if I’m sharing it, that means it’s d-o-n-e. Another reason, is that I started this project and stayed on top of it until it was completed. Without starting another one. (I do that sometimes. Okay… a lot!) And last but not least, in hopes that you find something in the following post that you might be able to take away and use in your own home.

Welcome to my sparkly new linen closet.

I got inspired to really kick it into gear and do something about my blah linen closet several weeks ago. I started in on it when my mom was visiting and finished up yesterday.

When I last shared I needed to;
  • Add storage baskets or bins
  • Add some fun tags/labels
  • Add more shelving
  • Add shelf liner
 STORAGE – For storing loose items, I used baskets I already owned. None of which were doing much, four were empty and one had magazines in it, so they are working much harder now. The baskets work well for keeping everything corralled but still visible so everyone can find what they are looking for.

TIP – If you don’t have stray basket hanging out, Ross often has really low priced baskets and if that doesn’t work, you can try the Dollar Tree or even covering boxes with wrapping or craft paper can work in a pinch!

LABELS – I decided I wanted something “now”. Like that’s new right? I can never wait for anything… so, I just made my own, with burlap, felt, paint, twine and my trusty glue gun. (I’ll show you how soon) This was also a great cheap-o way to get labels, without spending money or waiting from something to arrive in the mail.

SHELVES – Jim ripped a few boards and we made some really simple extra shelves for the right side of the closet. We still had some of wood left from the sun room shelf project so I did’t have to spend anything to add them. We went from one shelf on the right side to four. Much better!If you don’t have spare lumber lying around, try wire shelving for a less expensive option.

SHELF LINER – I covered the new shelves with some shelf liner I had left over from the cabinets and drawers in the kitchen. I am sooo glad I kept that! Sometimes being a little hoarder comes in handy (:

TIP – Dollar Tree carries several patterns of shelf liner, if I didn’t have this on hand that would have been my first stop.
 
 
The shelf liner alone was sort of plain though and I thought it needed some “oomph”. So I added some ruffled burlap to two of the shelves  then topped them with some pink satin ribbon that is, no joke, from Jim & I’s wedding.

It still looks perfect. So what the heck right? I wish I was a mushy writer and I could insert some wonderful story about how the ribbon was meant to be… and blah blah blah. lol. But that isn’t me. I was more like, “Excellent, I think this will work and I don’t have to go to JoAnn’s”. Anyhow, I didn’t do ruffled burlap on all the shelves, I thought it would be too much. I did add ribbon to the the face of all the rest of the shelves though. I think it’s just right.

I’m thrilled I got another project marked off my list, and doubly so for doing it without spending a dime.
.I’m certain I like it extra because of that! Why I waited so long to do this, I will never know?

Wow. How pitifully sad. And after…

The pink paint ended up being perfect and I’m so glad I went for it, instead of using white. It feels so girly now. Even if it’s sort of a secret.
Plus, I finally found a use for that Oops paint I picked up about a year ago. So again… I didn’t have to spend any money. I always recommend checking the Oops paint section. I often get lots of inspiration with what I find, especially when I don’t know where to start.

My linen closet makeover is now complete. I guess I had better get back to working on that bathroom makeover I’m in the middle of now! I am so bad at staying on diy task.

    You just put every linen closet and cabinet in my house to shame! Can you take off the doors on that and make some chicken wire inserts so you can admire it all the time or is that asking too much?

    I’m sure that 20 year old ribbon was thrilled to finally be put into action! And I LOVE those burlap tags – so creative!

    I’m scared to open my linen closet door because I might get a concussion!
