Scratching the 10-Year Redecorating Itch with Sherwin-Williams paints
I’m itchy. I know you get that way too.
You see. I painted the striped accent wall in our laundry room/powder bathroom about 10 years ago. (I kind of can’t believe it’s been that long?)
On the other hand…
No wonder I am so ready for a change!
I’ve been plotting and scheming whenever I go in there. Mentally painting over those stripes, tossing around color scheme ideas and envisioning better organization for at least the last year. Three Err, one thing at a time though right? Well, Austin is all moved in and comfy in his new room, just a few little projects left to do there! The home decor storage room is complete, and I tackled our walk-in storage closet a few weekends ago… so, why not dig into the bathroom?
Painting is the one thing that makes the biggest impact. And just like the stripes made the room previously, I’m looking to set the tone once again with paint. I turned to Sherwin-Williams for inspiration. You know I like to change things up seasonally and often because a mood strikes, so I want to stay fairly neutral with my paint. I’ve done white. I’ve done beige. I’m thinking a neutral gray would be perfect with the existing cabinets and appliances.
Now, to find that perfect gray…
Well guess what? Now that I live in the present and have a smartphone, I can take advantage of this super addictive little tool called ColorSnap®
Easy to use, the free ColorSnap® app quickly and easily matches images you capture with your smartphone to the palette of 1,500 Sherwin-Williams paint colors. You guys, this thing is soooo neat. Visit the app store and download it and off you go! I laid in bed one night just taking pretty pictures from my phone and finding the Sherwin-Williams color match. Just beyond coolness!!
Look how it pulled the colors from my mom’s bedside table…
and the purple from that floral arrangement in this dreamy living room.
Here are the techy details on ColorSnap®
- ColorSnap® is an app with capabilities on iPhone, Android and BlackBerry.
- Simply snap an image and get up to eight matching Sherwin-Williams colors from the photo, or match a specific color and get coordinating color recommendations.
- Fine-tune colors using lightness, saturation and hue features.
- Save colors to your Saved Colors library to compare palettes or share via Facebook and email.
- Learn detailed color information, including color names, RGB values and LRV numbers all with the ColorSnap® app.
I snapped a picture of a recently painted board and plugged it in, ColorSnap® provided the perfect match and instilled a lot of confidence in this feature. It was dead on.
SW 6597 Hopeful, came up SW 6597 Hopeful.
Isn’t it dreamy? That is for an upcoming project I have planned. I love the name too… Hopeful. Sigh.
But back to our combination laundry and powder bathroom.
When I started talking about painting, it lead to my husband and I talking about what worked, and what didn’t in the room.
You know, I’m sort of like the mouse in that book… “If you give Shannon a paint brush, you’ll find yourself installing new shelving. My husband loves me. No, really. He does. I’m the painter, he is the builder. It works.
Oh wait. The new shelving was a surprise, I think?
Make that, “If you tell Shannon a secret…”
Anyhow. We had never “loved” the small cabinet over the dryer and the tension rod we keep the hangers on likes to fall sometimes, in the middle of the night and scare the living daylights out of us. Very noisy. So we decided to tackle those while I’m in there painting. Great time to make some changes.
I found a few photos to use as a guide for my Mr. Build It, so he’d have something to go off of. These are a few that we thought might work in our space. We do a lot of looking and talking before we decide on any changes we make.

I know I’ll be using the Sherwin-Williams Harmony® paint. I like that it’s a Zero VOC product, which will help the room stay fresher, longer. Doubly well, since the room I’m going to be working in has no windows!
Now, it’s up to me to commit to a gray paint color. I’ve got a few to choose from. When I ran over to pick up my SW 6597 Hopeful paint color, I found that my local Sherwin-Williams store has the nicest employees, so I’m sure I can get help in-store too if I need it.
These are my top picks:
Sherwin-Williams Collonade Gray (SW 7641)
Sherwin-Williams in Fawn Brindle (SW 7640) with Extra White SW 7006
….or you know, one of these:
Unless I change my mind… ? It’s been known to happen {winks}.
