Today I have a special treat for you!
It’s a shabby farmhouse furniture makeover
Our special guest has been working her fingers to the bone getting ready for the big reveal.
And Lucky Us!
She is premiering it here at Fox Hollow.
Hang on to your socks girls… because they are about to get “knocked-off”
(not to be confused with getting knocked-up)
Take it away…
Hi, y’all! I’m Laura and I kick back over at Our Prairie Home. I’m a stay-at-mom to six great kiddos and wife to one uber busy husband. We make our home in a 1905 Victorian on 4 acres in the midst of the corn and bean fields of the Midwest.
I’ve just recently found my passion for upcycling, thrifting, and painting, and now spend every spare moment either shopping my house or thrifting, when I’m not blogging or Facebooking. 😉 Shannon has been my number one cheerleader since I started my blogging journey in July.
I’m really excited about visiting with all of you ladies!
And kind of a little nervous too, since I have some pretty big shoes to fill for the day. Shannon is one of my favorite bloggers and I’m always in awe of her fantastic ideas.
Her aqua bench? Yeah. I want it. 😉
Today, Shannon invited me to reveal my latest makeover. Nobody has seen it yet, not even my readers, so I’m delighted to be able to share it with FHC followers first!
I bought this aging beauty from our local Facebook For Sale page. Here in northeastern Iowa, we have a page where people can buy and sell things through posting on a FB page. Its basically an online garage sale and its fantastic!
My favorite part of redoing a piece of furniture like this cabinet, is filling it with things that I love like…
and
There’s nothing more refreshing to me
than blues and greens and whites.
It reminds of my hometown back on the East Coast.
There’s just something about shades of those colors that make my soul sigh a little.
Throw in a little of this…
and a little of that…
and I feel right at home, even though I’m slightly landlocked.
Okay, a lot land locked.
I worked on the china cabinet for about a week, painting it with a combination of ASCP in Old White & homemade chalk paint.
There were tons of details, which is one of the reasons I scooped it up so quick. I could only imagine what I could do to it with a little bit o’ paint…
some distressing…
and AS Dark Wax.
It’s always a great thing to save something that might have ended up in the landfill or someone’s burn pile and turn it into a thing of beauty to be enjoyedand loved.
And I can’t help but think that if furniture could talk, it would thank us for taking to time to make itpretty and useful once again.
I’ve really enjoyed sharing my china cabinet with you today and giving you a peek into some of the things I get into at
I hope you’ll take the time come on over and visit.
Our door is always open to any friend of Shannon’s!
Thanks for having me over, Shan!
