Summer Entryway at The Little Cottage

It’s Summer, and The Little Cottage is putting on it’s ‘welcome face’, with a entryway ready to greet guests! Please come in, I can’t wait to show you.

Hello my Foxy friends! If you are visiting from the Summer entryway of my friend Jennifer at Town & Country, welcome to our guest house! You can catch up on this project and how we came to have a guest house here. For those of you that are my Foxy regulars, you know it’s been a long road to get here. And we aren’t done yet, but we are done for now. I’m living in a world of good enough this Summer. While we are currently tackling the main living area at The Little Cottage (TLC) from here out, I had to shift gears and get the rest of the house suitable for company, without completing any major projects. So while I’ve got plans for this space… today, it’s simple and welcoming and ready for Summer company. Come in…

This Summer, to help keep myself a bit more organized, if only in my mind… I decided to keep all my color separate, and have my aqua decorating goods set aside for the main house, and do a navy coastal feel down at the guest cottage. Living so close to the ocean, a coastal theme is at home here 365 days a year, and always feels right.

My World Market table is finally out of the box after being in storage over a year! It’s everything perfect for this space. I couldn’t be happier with it. And the runner is where it was always intended to be.

I kept it simple, with a slight nod to Summer with the sea grass, starfish and fan. This will probably be the last TLC room I officially decorate , and simple is just right, for right now.

The great thing about coastal decor… is that you only have to sprinkle it about, and it sets a mood.

For tide pool exploring, sandy toes, and salt spray.

And while these particular books probably won’t be getting read… everyone knows reading during the Summer is a luxurious pleasure!

The old freezer locker baskets are a perfect fit on the bottom shelves.

I’m so glad I literally, and I mean literally, trudged up a 1/2 mile driveway with an incline so steep, that I about had a heart attack, to get to the very out-of-the way estate sale I found them at. $1.00 each. Totally worth it.

It felt a little odd to share pictures when you can so blatantly see all the new window and door trims I’ve yet to finish. I got over it real quick though. My husband and I joke all the time, that this isn’t ‘a half hour reality show’. Our DIY take a bit longer.

The stairs go up to the loft, and my future office. I’ve got big plans for both!

Until then, a few decor goodies warm-up the space.

If you follow me on Instagram, I was sharing in my stories, how I hung this shelf perfectly, on the very first try with the easiest method! I hate putting holes in my freshly painted walls so I super-love the trick!

Queen Anne’s Lace grows wild here, so we went out harvesting over the weekend. It’s hard to beat free.

This is the view coming down from the loft. I’m really happy with the height and interest the windows added, without putting holes in the walls. Especially since it’s temporary. I love using architectural salvage to add interest, color, texture, etc… it’s so easy to move around and shift to suit your needs!

I also asked for help choosing door colors in my story mode on Instagram (I love it for quick, live feedback). I decided to go with Naval from Sherwin Williams, but it wasn’t meant to be. They didn’t have the base I needed in stock in a quart size. And I was only painting one door so I was not about to buy a gallon. It all worked out perfectly though, because I love the dusty cocoa color I selected, spur-of-the moment in the store. It’s called Chatura Gray.

I really like it. It’s everything I wanted. Being neutral, I can change anything I want in this space, and it’s going to work!

There are three doors in tight quarters, and I tossed around a lot of ideas. I ultimately settled on the bedroom & bathroom doors being white, and just highlighting the exterior door. I’m happy with my choice. Especially since I’m not 100% settled on colors for the other two room, and I don’t want a door color to clash with the rooms.

It feels so very good to walk in and get a glimmer of what’s to come, and have a completed space over at TLC. And don’t tell anyone, but you got a tiny sneak-peek at how the main living area is shaping up. I’ll be revealing that for the Color Lovers finale event on June 28th.
