Hi Foxy Friends!
Have you heard about whole grains?
I jumped at the chance.
It worked. They looked so appealing, I snagged a few and stole a Newtons cookie too! Oh, and Austin liked it too. With the whole grains, and the fruit, I can feel good about this after school snack. Not surprisingly, Austin comes home from school pretty hungry some days.
I know it can be hard to wait until dinner.
I can remember coming home from school just ravenous! You know, it really makes you hungry walking those five miles to school, in the snow, uphill both ways. In Southern California 😉
I saved the Cherry Vanilla Fruit Thins for me.
My thought was that since I had previously tried and loved the Fruit Thins in the
Blueberry Brown Sugar version, I would be hiding these somewhere so I could get a few. Yes, I know, I’m evil but you know how it goes when you go to get something and find an empty package? I know you do!
Yeah… Grr.
has any one tried the whole wheat pastas?
I’ve spied them but have not put any in my cart yet. I’m a chicken! You go first and let me know what you think.
That sounds like a great plan to me!!

I love those thin crisps! And yes I’ve tried the whole wheat pasta….there ain’t nothing like the real thing baby! But it’s a healthy alternative.

The Cherry Vanilla Fruit Thins sound delicious! I’ve been a fan of Newtons for many years.

Shannon I have the same dilemma with my teenage daughter. No time for breakfast, skips breakfast… unless it’s banana or breakfast bar. I LOVE fig newtons. I’m excited about giving these a try as a grab and go breakfast for my teenager too. Thanks for sharing!

I had no idea that Fig Newtons came out with new products and flavors! Loved them as a kid, still love them today, and I guess I need to pick some up soon! You know…just to try them out…or 3 or 4. 😉
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
They do! My boys loved them. And I seriously live on those Belvita’s. Milk and biscuit crackers. Yum for breakfast 🙂

Those apples with cinnamon look soooo good. I grew up eating fig newtons and I still love them!

Steph – It’s great to have another weapon in my “I don’t have to feel guilty arsenal” LOL
Vivienne @ the V Spot says
I love Newtons and since I get “hangry” if I don’t eat, I like that they are a good grab and go snack.
Heidi @ Honeybear Lane says
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. That sounds like a yummy breakfast to me! To be honest, I wasn’t a fan of the original Fig Newtons as a kid but I think I would love these ones with the fruity fillings.
Jessica @ FourGenerationsOneRoof says
These sound delicious! My 6 year old would probably love them as well 🙂
Mom says
Unfortnatelty a medium banana, 12 ounces of milk and 3 whole grain fig newton’s are close to 40 grams of sugar. It is no wonder that there is an explosion of diabetes and obesity in this country. Seriously you are compromising your sons health by providing him such a breakfast.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
It’s not a everyday breakfast but thanks so much for your concern! The Newton’s have 22 g, and we drink fat free milk which I feel is nutritious. And call me crazy, but I don’t count the sugar in fruit. It’s raw, whole food, completely natural and unprocessed. I feel like any natural sugars presence is outweighed by all the good stuff 🙂 I know a diabetic can’t think like that, but for a family with blood sugar in the normal range., we do 😉
Diane says
Sugars from raw fruit are balanced by fiber. You’ve got protein in your milk (and probably a little in the bars), and low fat as well. I think this is a great portable choice. As you’ve said, this is not every day. When compared to the typical kid breakfast of Super Berry Cap’n Crunch (talk about sugars and no fiber) where the milk gets poured down the drain (and we all know by now that the vitamins are swimming there, because they were sprayed on)…I’ll take this choice, hands-down! Good job, mom! 🙂

Thanks for you insights – Sprayed on? I did NOT know that. Wow. Even in the (I think) healthy bran flake cereals? I do some hearty granola bran and add walnuts. I had no idea!!
Deb says
Great reply! Fruit, fiber and milk. . . good and nutritious!

What a great memory of your grandmother’s house – pale aqua kitchen and Fig Newtons. Both classics!
