Flirting With Fall – how to get in an Autumn mood
We have this talk every year about this time.
I tell you how I love our summer’s here in the Pacific Northwest and how as much as I love fall it’s hard to accept it because my head jumps ahead to Winter and I’m never quite ready for that. I struggle with this transition every year.
Fall is my 2nd favorite season, preceded by summer. It’s almost an extension of summer, we have some of our best weather of the year. It’s sublime I tell you!
Oh, I complained (loudly) when people started sharing “fall ideas and images” at the beginning of August!! Too soon!! Too soon!! It’s like seeing “back to school” ads 3 days after your kids get out of school. Too much rushing people.
This year, to ease into it, I decided to do things differently.
I decided I’d flirt with fall.
Staring with cringing a little less every time I saw an Autumnal image. That was a good start.
I’m also flipping through magazines in the evening, lighting candles and pulling out my favorite throws.
Sharing lots of fun fall ideas on Facebook, Instagram and pinning ideas to try on Pinterest has helped too. I love sharing others beautiful rooms, crafts and recipes. There is so much talent out there, it’s almost overwhelming. So I look in moderation. Just enough to enjoy, and feed the lil’ fall monster.
Also, I went back and looked at some of my favorite past fall posts & projects in hopes of stirring up a bit of love & nostalgia. And it’s working!

(Wow, so many changes since then!)
But I forbade myself from looking at Halloween.
A girl has got to know when to say “no”.
(don’t even get me started on the “C-word”… can you even believe people are looking at & pinning it? It’s true, my unmentionable projects are being searched, viewed and pinned. But we won’t talk about that…)
Back to Autumn – On top of less hating & more reminiscing… I decided to do a little addition & subtraction! Nothing like changing things up to get me in the mood to redecorate.
We added this new table. Jim & I both thought it was too unique to part with and accidentally kept it instead of taking down to our booth at Vintage 101. Whoops. Job hazard.

I in turn, got super inspired for fall by decorating with it to create a different feel in the house. I love to kind of “reinvent” the spaces in our home, even though it’s little.
It keeps things interesting.
We subtracted our farm table & chairs.

Yep, you read that right… it no longer lives at Fox Hollow Cottage!
I’ll share the thinking behind this, the results of my mathematics, and new plans for the cottage as we head into fall! I’m excited for fresh beginnings and very excited to share them with you!!
