Happy Spring Cottage Kitchen Tour
Hi there! We are finally getting some consistent sunshine here and I’ve been in heaven after all that rain. A few days in a row feels like bliss!! If you are getting snow or junky weather where you are, I’m so sorry. And if it’s any consolations… I’m sure it’ll rain here as soon as I hit publish.
The sweet seasons and days are short here, so I absolutely savor them!!
I was on the back deck yesterday cleaning up my pots, prepping my soil and getting some new plants in, and today I did a bunch of housework. I’ve been so super nest-y lately! The up-side is that the house is in great order.
I thought I’d better pop in real quick and do some catching-up between projects, because I took some fresh photos days ago! And if I don’t share soon… I’m sure I’ll change something. I know you know how that goes.
Our vintage scale has a new home, and let me tell you… it better like the new accommodations. This thing is monster heavy. And I moved it all by myself. Sometimes, being stubborn is a benefit. I get a lot done by sheer force of will.
I picked up the Rooster cloche, what feels like forever ago, and I think they make a cute pair. It needed just the right spot and this is it. I found it at HomeGoods month ago. I’m oddly patient sometimes and will hold on to things without using them if I don’t know where I want to put them. Speaking of, I’m gathering a good little hoard pile of goodies for The Little Cottage. We are moving forward, however slowly, and I should be getting in there around June.
Don’t look too close at my chandy… I’m sure it needs to be cleaned. I’m considering taking it down and swapping it for another fixture, so I’m putting it off. It’ll be much easier to clean it down, before I put it in it’s new spot. So really, I’m just effectively managing my time. hahaha
Look at the roses instead!
This area is just itching for a paint makeover! (my wheels are always turning) For now, it’s decorated very simply. I didn’t feel like mega-layering and I love the sunny yellow!! Plus I got to use my DIY backdrops [click here]
Oh, and just a friendly tip: if you clip the heads off spent roses to keep them, don’t put them in a lidded jar if they aren’t completely dry. It’s not pretty. In fact, it’s very moldy and gross! Lesson learned here.
Our kitchen “dining area” is kind of in limbo right now. I’m using this table and it’s a sort of a makeshift island. It’s fun to decorate, but I’ve got no proper dining table… and no chairs! I know. I’m a nut. I sold two that didn’t work in the space (they came with us from another, much larger home) and the last one was cute, it had a feel I loved and the wood was worn and wonderful… but the base legs sat so close together, you could not get a chair between them. So, it went buh-bye too.
I am ruthless I tell ya!
We’ll eventually build one to suit, once the workshop is up and in working order. I can wait. Lord knows… I have the hardest time picking things and I don’t know exactly what I want yet anyhow. This gives me more time to think.
I really enjoy my vintage jar collection and I’ve got such a great variety now. My newest are the 3rd front row, and the purple. The purple was a gift from the owner of an Antique store we visited over in Medford. (I’ll need to find the name and add that here!) I was admiring his extensive collection. He had some really rare stuff. I mentioned I didn’t have any purple in my collection, and when we checked-out… he gave it to me. I was so touched!!
The antique butterfly table works for now, and it’s so nice, open and flowy through the kitchen and into the sun room like this. I’d have no dining table if I could get away with it. Well, technically, I guess I am getting away with it.
Actually, we’ve determined our house has the worst layout for a table and chairs. I think I’ve lived in apartments with better clearance. We love it open… but it’s not conducive to family dinners. Good thing there are only three of us, and BBQ season is upon us!
I’ve got nothing else pink in my house… but my mom got me the cutest, softest, squishiest pillow. So pink it is!!
And it is sitting right here, in it’s own little place of honor on my $5 coffee sack chair [click here for project details]
It’s such a pretty bit of color and for now I am quite enjoying it, I pass this spot a zillion times a day since I’m always going up & down the stairs.
As soon as the sunshine hits, my faux Lemons come out. I don’t care if they are tacky. They are bright, zingy and I love them!! I pile em’ up all over.
The kitchen is wearing some brighter accents as well. Along with the lemon yellow, I’ve got some aqua. I won’t go full-on aqua until Summer is closer… but I usually have a little sprinkled around. Can’t help it!
The Lemon wreath was a Target find. On clearance for a steal! I just had to snip, tuck and fluff. It was missing a few bits… but I didn’t mind.
If you were following me around the holidays, you might recall I opened up the vintage bottle drying rack that was intended for The Little Cottage, and stole it for the main house! I love it here, and it could not be a better fit. I don’t like a ton of stuff on my counters, so it’s been great to decorate and bring some interest into the kitchen area, without cluttering them up.
No bunnies were harmed in the shooting of this kitchen tour. No worries… these roses were good and dry!
I really appreciate that you spend some of your precious time here with me. Thanks so much for stopping in at the hollow today and visiting!! xo Shannon

It all looks so lovely Shannon! The white roses, blue mason jars, lemons, aqua touches here and there. And then there’s that pretty pillow with the pink flowers. And the chair with the burlap coffee sack cushion. You are so creative! Thank you for sharing with us. 🙂

Thanks Terri. Oh gosh, that rack has been wonderful. It is so nice to be able to jazz that area up. Previously, we had the trashcan there, so it’s a big improvement 😉 lol! Yes, we are moving ahead, and I need to do a catch-up post dedicated to it. There is a lot to share.
