Give Back with Sackcloth & Ashes Blankets Now at Cost Plus World Market
What if a blanket could save a life? Today’s post is a sponsored conversation about Sackcloth & Ashes blankets, and their mission to help the homeless. Now available at Cost Plus World Market.
Sometimes I get the opportunity to share incredible companies with you, and today, I’m sharing two! If you are looking for a ways to decorate & warm up your home, or gift friends & loved ones, while at the same time, giving back… keep reading!
Sharing companies that make beautiful things with you is something I love to do. I think we all frequent Cost Plus World Market right? They pretty much have everything you could need for your home, and you know I am over the moon for my Everett Foyer Table. I always stop in for a visit when I hit Eugene, and I love the eclectic nature of the store.
Well, they are partnering with a company called Sackcloth & Ashes. Have you heard of them? In case you haven’t, let me give you some backstory.
- The founder of Sackcloth & Ashes, Bob Dalton, was inspired to help the homeless population when his mother, a hardworking single mother, found herself living on the streets in 2013.
- Because of his mother’s story, Bob realized that not all choose to become homeless – some people just need a second chance.
- He began to call homeless shelters in his area to ask what they needed most… They all said blankets.
Sackcloth & Ashes happens to make some of the softest, most uniquely patterned blankets. Like the one that I’ve got parked on my sofa, ready for getting cozy right now!
And they have a mission!
It’s to give one blanket to a homeless shelter, for every one that is purchased.
It’s similar to the Tom’s Shoes concept. Buy a pair of shoes, they give a pair of shoes, but instead they are supplying blankets. Well, Cost Plus World Market was so impressed with the beauty and artistry of their blankets, and the cause, that they are partnering with Sackcloth & Ashes and making them available in their stores as well as online, starting today, October 1st!
I’m sharing the Ivory and Turquoise Diamond Throw Blanket that is in our home. Made in Italy, of a wool blend that adds the perfect amount of soft coziness, it’s perfectly sized for home or travel.
You can now choose from 5 exclusive and equally amazing blanket designs in-store and online. When you buy a blanket, a blanket will be donated to your local homeless shelter. That is shopping you can feel really, really good about!
With the season changing, I don’t think the timing could be better to quite literally warm and comfort a homeless individual, and potentially save a life.
Not all who are without a home choose to be, we don’t know people’s stories, circumstances, or how they got where they are. But we can show kindness, compassion, and give blankets.
Cost Plus World Market and Sackcloth & Ashes are excited to partner together and to encourage others to pay it forward this season. Each beautiful blanket comes in a handy to re-use box, with some great ways to give back printed right inside!

- Dependent on funds or where you are donating, check with your local homeless shelter or women’s shelter for specific needs. You might inquire at work as well, many corporations have programs in place to support local communities. Two of the retail store I worked at in the past had large drives during the holidays for donations of clothing, cash, food and gifts that all went to local families.
This is the box I put together. I’ve also got 2 blankets, 2 Winter coats and 5 pair of jeans to take along with it.
Here are some more ways that you can give back, and help those most in need:
-

Did you know there are homeless students? It’s hard to think of children being homeless but it happens. Reach out to your local school and inquire. They often have resources gathered at the school to give to those in need. I’ve been able to help in that way and it’s very humbling and gratifying.

This is personally a favorite way to help those that are hungry immediately. I have taken to keeping gift-cards for our few local fast food restaurants with me because I often see homeless asking for food in front of them. This allows them to make a purchase of their choice, and be able to sit down inside the establishment and eat. Out of the weather, be it scorching heat or bone chilling cold.
Thank you for this post! In the most interesting ways recently I have been reminded about the generosity of strangers. But the more I thought about this, I remembered what my Mom told me one day when I was about 5 years old. A man came to our door asking for food. My mom made him a sandwich and wrapped it up with a piece of apple pie. He was so appreciative. My Mom told me people we do not know are not really strangers, just friends we have not met before. Now granted this was in 1949. But it taught me to be open minded and generous to those in need. This company is on a wonderful mission to help with such need!
Nancy, I’ve heard similar stories and followed tales of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. We need to see these times as we do those when we look back. Life is hard and I don’t know anywhere inexpensive to live in this great country. Your mom sounds like a graceful and kinds woman. Who raised another.
Thank you for sharing such a worthwhile project.
A massive Congratulations to you…brilliant idea
???
What a fabulous concept!! Thank you for sharing!!
Love what they and you are doing! The gift cards are a good idea. Thank you!
I find it works really well. 🙂
You have the best posts! Thank you for letting us know of this organization and how we can help. Brilliant idea with the fast food gift cards, never thought of that.
Katherine it just came to me one day, when a few homeless men asked me for food when I was leaving a take and bake pizza place. I couldn’t buy them a raw pizza, so I went to the McDonald’s next door and went back around and gave them to them.
Thank you for the list. I’m a long ways from where you live, but the homeless situation is the same everywhere. Most of the homeless are mentally ill one way or another. This list will keep many able to continue on. Maybe one day they can be helped.
Sadly true Cherie. There are people struggling everywhere. And many of the homeless are mentally ill.
LOVE this so much! What an amazing company. So needed in this world!
Very true!
This is a beautiful blanket and a beautiful cause! What a great way to celebrate fall. Thank you.

It’s true, even small steps amount to great leaps 🙂
Happy Fall Elle.
Giving out fast food gift cards is a very good idea. I don’t want to hand over money because it can be used for other things than food. Thanks for sharing what you do.
I’m glad you liked the idea. They feel very comfortable for me as well – Safe, and you are giving them what 99% of the signs are asking for.
I love supporting companies like this! They are true heroes to the homeless! Thank you for letting us know about it, and the opportunity to win one! You are awesome!
Same here! Much luck to you 🙂
I love the mission of this company to give one blanket to a homeless shelter for everyone that is purchased. How generous! I also appreciate the way you Are giving back as well. What an honor to have such a beautiful blanket with an inspiring mission Grace my home. What a wonderful opportunity to tell others as they are snuggling under it, about it’s greater mission! Bless you Shannon!
It really is wonderful! And there are smaller ways we can give back as well. It was my pleasure to get to share this with you all today!
I’d love to win the blanket; to give as a gift. I hope I can afford to buy one, as well; so that will duplicate itself as a gift to a homeless person. Great idea, thanks for suggesting it.
