Hello friends! I’m hoping you all had an extra wonderful long weekend!! Because we are pushing super hard to get the workshop done, so we can make the flip and get the little cottage emptied out, we aren’t indulging in much fun right now. With jobs during the weekdays, that leaves evenings and weekends for the workshop… and they seem to fly by! Our plan is to keep hammering away at it. We hope to get it done in time to enjoy some end of summer fun. We’ve got a goal in sight and we are trying so hard to keep our eye on the ball… even though mine wanders a bit sometimes.
Sunday night, after working in the workshop, and spending several hours down at our booth re-stocking, I just couldn’t stand it any more and I had to get some red, white and blue up in here!! I wasn’t quick enough to share by Memorial Day, but I knew it was there and it made me happy. If you enjoy a little nautical style decor with a patriotic punch, you might like it too!!!
Here is our Patriotic Coastal Cottage Living Room
If you visit with me on social media, like Instagram & Facebook, you might recall I got to go shopping at HomeGoods recently. It had been months since I’d been. Along with a few other goodies, I bought pillows. Of course I did!
Because I am a sick, sick woman.
But that is not the pillows fault, so why should they be punished? Poor things were just leaned up against the armoire, all displaced and such. They really, really need to get tucked in on the sofa!
I stole borrowed my vintage red fan back from Austin. It somehow got sucked into his room when I brought it home. I’ll let him have it back later, but for now, I love it over in the corner.
I did forget to dust it though. Even though I told myself to make a mental note to dust it! As I was stealing a few moments to take pictures, so I could share with you… I remembered, and for the first time… I didn’t care! It was kind of a “take them now, while I had the chance… and dust be damned” moment, or forget the whole thing. Because then, I’d probably wipe down the plantations shutters… and decide I needed to clean the floor, and well, you get the picture.
And you are actually getting the picture(s)! It’s all about priorities right?
Remember when I got those cute little aqua hobnail votives and used them on our Purple & Aqua Patio? [click here], and I said they came in a four-pack? Well the navy blue are the other two colors. Aren’t they perfect for patriotic decorating? I love the vintage-y feel!!
Jimmy bought me this little guy last year!! He is the sweetest thing. Such a great surprise. He was very, very sneaky getting him for me. The super-good kind of sneaky.
Back when I was at HomeGoods, I could not for the life of me decide between on one of the three pillows I was contemplating, I’d already narrowed it down from about 47…. so I took to Facebook live and asked for help! I had two definites in my cart, and three was my limit. You guys were mostly AWESOME. All except those of you who told me to “get all three”. Now, y‘all know I have got zero pillow willpower. How could you do that to me?
You are all fired. hahahahaha
As you can see, the Home-Sweet-Home made it home with us.
Funny how things work out. Because when I got home, I saw a Facebook post from my sister that she was at a fund raiser for Wounded Warriors, to support Veterans. Well, I just took the money I saved leaving the other two pillows at the store, and made a donation! Technology can really be amazing. I saw a Facebook post, messaged her, she made the donation and I sent her the money using Paypal. Pretty cool. They were raising funds to supply prosthesis, accessible vehicles, etc…
That small, local event raised $70,000
The living room couldn’t contain the red, white and blue. It just sort of shimmied over to the fireplace mantel too.
I kept it very simple. My vintage flag is center stage, and my other teddy is standing at attention. My mom liked mine so much, I went and got her one. And accidentally bought myself another as well. Oops.
A few books… our other vintage fan and some driftwood. It feels perfectly patriotically coastal. My aqua might not make an appearance this summer with the Fourth of July barely a month away? We shall see…
Again, I’m hoping you had a lovely long weekend. The Ted’s and I are signing off.
xo, your friend Shannon

Hello! Where did you find the wicker remote control holder that is on the sofa …love it …need it!?
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Hi there! I grabbed that at an estate sale. If I ever run across one online, I’ll make sure to share it on my Facebook page with everyone 🙂

First thing that drew me in were your special Teds!!! Especially the one with the paper hat! Funny thing is, it jogged a long long ago fond memory of my Nan helping me decorate mine for imagination play. Ne hoooo your Teds are adorable and the pillows? Love love love them!!! Everything you utilized and placed throughout the cottage is totally spot on!!
Speaking of pillows, I recently visited LiveLaughRowe and she had a perfect phrase for those of us who crush madly over pillows, including myself! “Throw Pillows Are The Stuffed Animals Of Grown Women”

I love it! Simple yet festive. You may have left 2 pillows in the store but it was worth it. Your donation will do so much good for one of our service members.

Hi! I have seen your site a few times but never left a comment. Your style is beautiful. I love it. I love how you did the patriotic thing with such class. I have enjoyed looking at your other posts as well. I am getting some ideas. I love your whales. They are so fun! I don’t seem to get all of these cute pillows at my tiny marshalls. I live in the boondocks. Makes it easier to buy less:)
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Well thank you so much Julie! I think we all love the Whales. They are so dang cute.
Oh girl, my closest HomeGoods is 4 hours round trip. We’ve got practically nothing here in town.
But like you said, it helps you save money. hahaha

I’m pretty sure that there is a 12 step program for your pillow addiction … and when you find it … walk away from it because I love seeing all of your new finds! They are fabulous pillows … I’ll be happy to take them off of your hands if that will help! LOL (Beautiful vignettes … love your patriotic mantel … it’s always so inviting)!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
hahahaha.

Can I ask where you purchased the red, white & blue little tree in your first picture
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I found that at an antique mall several years ago. Sorry I don’t have a link to share for them.

Love all of the pillows!….and the Teds are adorable!!!…I will have to be on the lookout for those fabulous red, white and blue bottle brush trees!…..and how wonderful that the small fundraising event raised so much money!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I know I just love them!! The gal that makes them is so stinking good. (In fact… I should go see if she’s got anything new?)
I found those trees at an antique mall. Yeah, isn’t that great? They had many veterans there for the event that had been helped. I’m sure it was wonderful!!

I love that plaid blanket!!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I got that last year! After the season 🙂 I’ve been waiting to use it. Even in Summer, the evenings can get a pinch chilly. So I’ve always got some handy.
Theresa says
Can I ask where you found it and/or what brand it is? I’ll have to keep an eye out for it. I love the thinner lined plaids like that. Very subtle.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Of course! I added all the sources last this morning. I got it last season, at HomeGoods. It’s soft of a microfiber/plush and it’s by Ralph Lauren. Hope you can find one. Good luck!!
Linda Charlton says
What type of flooring is that in your living room? I love the look.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I’ll make sure to add that to the post.
It’s Knob Hill Birch, from Lumber Liquidators.
And thank you!
Barb Hughes says
😀 Big smiles here… kudos on the pillow challenge for the win (to wounded vets). Haha… you are so funny, Shannon. Transparent!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I thought that worked out really well too.
The organization has supplied new prosthetics and even vehicles and homes that are more friendly to those suffering limb loss.
Debbie @ Refresh Restyle says
So pretty Shannon, your pillows are awesome! Send some to me!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Sure thing! Indoor or outdoor? 😉
Mary Beth says
oh my goodness! I love the cute little teds! Such a fun & unexpected whimsical addition to the decor. They would look super cute for Christmas with a change of neck ties holding a vintage bottle brush or candy cane!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
They would! I think they are attached to their flags though (glue).
Otherwise, great idea!
Kim says
Oh, my pillow loving friend you know I have the same addiction….I mean problem. I cannot steer away from the pillow aisle at HG. They just suck me in. I don’t always find something thank goodness. Of course Pottery Barn gets me, too with their covers. Loving the red white and blue decor!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I know! It’s an illness 😉
Almost thankful we don’t have a PB or PB outlet close… the covers would do me in!!
