Vintage Cottage Fall Sun Room Decorating
Well, it’s full-on Fall now… no more tiptoeing around it. The mornings are brisk, and heavy with dew… the nights crisp, with a sharp chill to the air. We are on the cusp of Winter, teetering on the edge. Every day, I say a little prayer for the sunshine, and tuck that feeling safely away. A little treasure to sustain me through the impending doom and gloom. Oh the joys of living in the Pacific Northwest. All the fresh air, clear skies and vast green spaces are something we pay for in trade. The trade? Dreary, grey, seemingly endless days of precipitation.
I pay it gladly though, because when the sun shines here… it is bliss. Pure bliss!!
And it sure was shining in the sun room when I snapped some photos to share this space with you! A bit much actually. You know how it goes, feast or famine.
Peeking down into the sun room, you’ll see an area we’ve never once sat at as a bar! We quickly utilized the space as additional storage. I made it hidden with some heavy drop cloths.
SIMPLE & STURDY DIY HIDDEN STORAGE SHELVES
When you live in a small house, or I suppose any house really… it’s important to make the most out of every little bit! And we do. Our house works hard for us to meet our needs. And when it no longer does, we make adjustments.
The counter top was originally a vanilla laminate, and we did THIS to fix it.
All without spending a dime!
The counter has served us well like this. I get to decorate it for everyday use and it’s a workhorse for holidays and family events, acting as a buffet. I simply add tablecloths. To both protect the porous surface & keep it sanitary.
It’s super fun spot to decorate.
And while I miss the vintage aqua color…
The white is so much more versatile.
Many of you have told me over the years, that the apothecary cabinet is your favorite piece of mine, and I feel the same way! I was so, so lucky the day I happened upon this gem. I love it more today, than the day I first saw it, all those years ago.
I really can’t imagine this room without it.
It’s a very busy room in our house. I am in & out and up & down the stairs all day long!
So it’s much enjoyed and appreciated.
And all the wee drawers work hard, secretly hiding all my craft supplies… that I feel like I never have time to use lately!
It’s cherished, and I can pretty safely say, it’s my favorite piece in the whole entire house to decorate.
It can be a bit of a puzzle, with the slim shelf openings… but I have my go-to favorites, and it’s good for a little thrill when things fit just right!!
Because the ceiling is vaulted in here, there is always room to go up. My trio of 3 gallon crocks are right at home on top and I think they will stay there for some time.
Unless of course I need them for Christmas trees this holiday season. In which case, I probably just lied.
You guys know I’m a sucker for lanterns & galvanized metal. And I knew, the second I saw these lanterns from Better Homes & Gardens, that they were coming home with me!
They will be a decorating staple, for sure! So expect to see them a lot.

As will the buffalo check pillow covers. I plan to use these straight through to Christmastime. You guys, these are available in 20 x 20 (larger than I got, darn it) and only $14.99 for TWO that size! The fabric is decent weight, not flimsy at all. I myself am perfectly happy with them.
My HomeGoods rattan chairs got re-located and they needed pillows. Because doesn’t’ everything?
I think they are a great match.
It’s so nice that these chairs are weighty enough to anchor the farm table as captains chairs, yet light enough for me to maneuver around that house as my needs change.
That my friends… is it for FALL touring at Fox Hollow Cottage. I’m going to share a Thanksgiving table, perhaps a craft… and if I get really ambitious, our Turkey recipe. Which I really should share… you could wring our Turkey out. Jim makes the juiciest bird you’ll ever eat (I do the sides). My husband is in charge of all BBQ and the Turkey at house. I don’t mess with perfection. Or a husband who helps cook.
Wishing you a blessed and beautiful Autumn. xo Shannon

And, because I love to remember where I started…
Fun tidbit: I scrubbed every inch of that grout, with bleach and a toothbrush, in the sun room & kitchen… and then decided to replace it.
I’m super smart like that.

I got two of the lanterns as well. They are well made and affordable. I will watch to see how you have yours in the future–mine are fall decor right now.

Where did you get the Buffalo plaid pumpkin?
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I bought those from Laura a Junque Cottage – she was making and selling them last year.
She isn’t this year though. So sorry! I tried to talk her into it 😉

I love your cabinet as well, you really got fortunate! Thanks for the source list–two of those lanterns are coming to my house, too. ?

I love your sunroom. Because I follow you and have seen it before, of course I love the apothacary cabinet, love all the copper accents for fall…but what really caught my eye was that sweet turquoise watering can. Love the way the autumn orange leaves play off the turquoise. Enjoy your autumn colorful days!

Love your apothecary cabinet. I love anything with small drawers. I have a small 12 drawer hardware cabinet, solid oak, that I treasure and store my needlepoint yarn. Your rooms are beautiful. Happy holidays to you.
