It’s gorgeous out today.
Sunny beyond belief.
Bright and full of promise.
Just reflecting a bit… no makeovers or crafts to share today.
I spent the morning visiting blogging friends and catching up on facebook a little bit. I found out a friends son is very ill and in ICU. Please send good thoughts their way, and prayers if you are so inclined. Austin had Scarlet Fever once and I know I was terrified for him so my heart is going out to her.
At Fox Hollow this morning, I’ve got laundry going and a messy living room. My living room is in disarray as I try to put a Spring mantle together for an upcoming party. I am completely undecided on what I’d like to do. I think I am over stimulated. To many pretty mantels out there already are making it difficult for me to find my own voice.
I’m also torn between playing outside in the sun, or
buckling down and getting my projects done and wrapped up!
Hmm… that is one too many choices.
I had a horrible headache yesterday which made it difficult to focus. The headache was on top of several nights of not sleeping well. (thank you hot flashes) I think I’m a little loopy!! I’ve sort of been going through menopause since I got cancer at 29. After my radical hysterectomy, I went into what they call medically induced menopause. It’s been fun. Wee 😉 Most times, it’s controlled with hormone replacements, but I’ve been trying to tapper off them now that I’m 44.
I can’t take them forever!
Any of you ladies in the same boat know how fun it is to wake up 947 times a night. Covers on. Covers off. I sleep with the window open when I can… but that is not often enough with the rain we get the majority of the time here in the Pacific Northwest. So. I don’t sleep well. Unfortunately, that starts to catch up with you after awhile and you find you’re running on empty. Napping doesn’t help. You never really catch-up on lost sleep, and I tend to get turned around, staying up too late if I nap during the day anyway. Age old problem I suppose, the whole “menopause thing”. At least these days… we know we aren’t crazy right? 🙂 If you have any super tips for dealing with menopause, lay them on me!
Well, if I end up accomplishing anything today…
you’ll know about it soon because I’ll share it here.
I tend to ramble… this would be why I don’t normally get
real “talky” in my posts. Thanks for listening.
Have a wonderful day!!

Hi Shannon!
I too went the same route as you only I was 39. The one thing that I found to help is Black Kohosh. I read about it in Good Housekeeping – and decided its an herb why not try it. Not expensive and the doctor said it was safe to try it. Well now that I have I make SURE I DON’T FORGET IT! It made the world of difference for me. After less than 2-3 weeks I could see a huge difference. I rarely have a night sweat now. Try it for awhile and see if it helps you.

I think I’m finally coming out of the menopause phase…(thank goodness) after five years of hot flashes. I am sleeping better now but the unstoppable 20 lb weight gain is very discouraging. It’s very hard to,lose weight after menopause I’ve heard so I am not hopeful there. So many of us are in the same boat it seems and that at least makes us not feel we’re alone! I will send prayers for the boy in the ICU….how distressing. I did NOT clean on Sunday so it looks just as bad this morning! Oh well!

I just discovered your blog after seeing it on Cozy Little House. I’m loving it already!
I am 57 and in the middle of menopause. Not too bad, but I work with young women and they think it’s funny when I get hot flashes. Real funny, right? 🙂

There is some sort of error with your feed. I came here from Cozy Little House and wanted to grab the feed but cannot. Love your blog!

Sorry to say, but I don’t think there are any answers other than the HRT to control the flashes until you grow too old for it. That would be me; well, almost anyway. I still need a fan focused on me at night once in awhile.
Oh, and if you’ve got sun in the Pacific Northwest, then you need to go out and enjoy it!

Hi Shannon,
I hear you on the whole menopause thing. I had a radical hysterectomy when I was 34 so I understand totally what you are going through. I was taking hrt for awhile in the beginning and then with the threat of breast cancer in my family I had to stop. I found a study with alternative simple treatment and have been doing this for over 15 years and have not had a hot flash, mood swing or felt like I may end up on the 6 oclock news if you now what I mean!!!!! If you would like to know about this just email me and I can let you know. I had worked for me and has worked for alot of others that were in the study.

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago (I’m now 50), but haven’t had too many problems with menopause. I do get night sweats and like you, it’s covers thrown off then back on – but that’s about it. Have never taken any HRT drugs – they sound too dangerous. Maybe you could talk to your dr. about trying some vitamins and herbal supplements instead? Good luck!

I have days where I just have to go with the flow and maybe get some things accomplished, maybe not. Now that the kids are grown, I just do what I want anymore. It’s pretty fun. Sorry you had such a headache and are struggling with the menopause.

I love this post…real, honest, and I can hear your voice when I read it! Just take it easy and enjoy the sun if you have it…I know you don’t get it often lately 🙂

I am sorry you were having hot flashes and headaches, but it made me feel good to know that I am not the only one whose house is in disarray today. I have a cold and have been on the couch all day.
Feel better.

Oh, yes. I had a hysterectomy at age 30 and know so well what you’re going through. I took an HRT drug for many years and now only take them if I have symptoms. Thankfully, I don’t have many at all these days.
Good luck with your spring decor. I hopped over from Brenda’s blog and look forward to browsing around.

I hear ya Shannon, on all accounts. Lately go to bed freezing cold, like bone chilling cold and then I wake up sweating. I really do not like all these changes..but they are part of life for sure.
