DIY Fox Silhouette Wall Art
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I’m a super lucky-duck and I recently got a Silhouette Cameo.
For those of you that don’t know, a Silhouette Cameo is a cutting machine. It comes with a software disc you load on your computer and it magically cuts it out the shape you select. It’s pretty dang slick!! You can also get more shapes/images and functions from shopping the Silhouette online store and download them to your computer in a snap. They even have a freebie shape every week you can download at no charge.
Well, I’ve never had anything like this, but I see some of the cutest projects being made with the Silhouette machines and I was eager to try my hand at making something ridiculously cute myself. Did you catch the “never had anything like this” part. Yeah. Turns out. I’m not that smart (or patient)! Plus, I’ve got about zero patience and it looks like I hate the learning curve too. lol!
You know when I make stuff… and I say it’s simple, or easy… etc. I mean it!!
Apparently, using one of the great shapes available from the Silhouette shape library wasn’t going to work for me. Nope, that would be too easy. In fact, it is, because I played around and cut several out and it was about as easy as could be!
I’m stubborn though… and I wanted THIS shape.
Feel free to hear Veruka Salt from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory’s voice saying shrilly;
“I want it NOW!”
Sad, but true. What are you going to do though? Can’t be Suzie Sunshine everyday right? I found this Fox silhouette while doing a image search online, and fell for it hard! I could tell the Cameo to cut it, if I knew how. I didn’t know how though, and I also happened to be super grumpy on the particular day I tried to learn how. Which I am sure had nothing to do with my frustration.
So, in enters my husband, who magically figures out the process in a few short minutes. You have to tell the machine to trace the image, select a few sizes and Bam! You’re ready to cut.
So, I guess Silhouette can now say; “So simply, even a husband can use it!!”
(love you babe! really)
In short. The Silhouette Cameo can do some Aah-Mazzzing stuff. But, you have to take a few non PMSy type moments to learn what this machine can do! Because it only took a few simple clicks to get the image I found from being on my computer screen…
To being cut out!
I’ve usually got more then one project going at a time and sometimes I really hop around. Like when I started to re-do my bathroom and decided to overhaul my linen closet instead. Typical me.
Well, I had decided to try Maison Banche’s new crackle medium a few weeks ago. I had an old (and I mean old) Oak frame. I painted it with Vanille, then applied the Le Craque Extreme, topped it with a coat of Wrought Iron and some clear wax and was rewarded with a wonderfully aged appearance. Watching it crackle was pretty cool too! Turns out… it’s the perfect home for my new little Cameo cutout to make it officially art. Who knew!?
Now, I took pictures of how I opened up the frame, how I placed the cut out directly on the glass, how I layered it with a sheet of green floral scrapbook paper and then closed it back up… but for the first time ever, I accidentally erased photos from my memory card. It was a extra special day. LOL.
I have every confidence y’all can figure out those steps though.
In the end. This is one of the my favorite craft projects ever!
After the bumps. It was actually super fast. And the result is crazy-good! All I used besides the machine was two pieces of scrapbook paper. The black card stock weight and the floral as the backing. I figure I would have spent $30 (or more) easy to buy something like this, so a few more projects and it would’ve paid for itself. Especially with the Fall season and Christmas coming. Yes, I said the C word. Sorry. Not trying to rush at all, just envisioning what fun stuff Jim I’ll be able to make this year!
Silhouette is running a fabulous promotion right now!

LOVE IT! I’m counting on you to help me when I finally get mine out of storage. Like I told you when we chatted, I’ve had it for 7 months already and have never used it…but I will! xo
Love it! I have problems with reading and following directions…I’m no help. Most of the time I figure something out and I can’t remember how I did it!

Love it Shannon!
This is a cutie pie for sure. And so fitting for a foxy lady such as yourself. I have no tips, never used one!
I love this cut out! I have got to teach myself how to use this machine for doing something other than cutting out letters …
I must be on that same learning curve challenge you were on. I could not follow those written directions if my life depended on it. I gave up and went to youtube and still had to have the instructions deciphered by my husband.
OHHHHHH so stinkin’ cute!! I love how it turned out. Did I ever tell you when I was a little girl we had a pet fox. Her name was…Foxy Lady. Hope you had a fantastic weekend!!
