Hello again Fox Hollow Cottage readers! I’m back with another monthly project!
The idea of a banner is nothing new…. But there’s so many awesome things to make them out of… like metal!
This did take a bit longer to make than the traditional fabric or burlap banner, bit it’s also different and it gives your eye something new to look at!
To make it, I used a 12″ x 24″ sheet of 26 gauge galvanized sheet metal and a 24″ x 36″ sheet of Lincane 20 gauge decorative metal. You can find most metals for your DIY projects online using websites such as https://aluminiumwarehouse.co.uk
I love the decorative sheet metal, it looks like lace…
I started by cutting the decorative metal with tin snips…. be careful it’s sharp! Remember that if you’re working with tougher metals or your design is a bit more extravagent, you might need to partake in welding, as long as you know what you’re doing. Just make sure you’re using safe welding surfaces if you choose to do this.
Then I cut the galvanized metal…. I made them smaller than the “lace” banners. I just used a sharpie to trace them onto the metal and then cut them out.
Tin snips work best…
Once I had everything cut out….
I placed the galvanized metal on top of the lace, then cleaned everything with a clean rag and rubbing alcohol. The alcohol removed any remaining sharpie marks.
With everything lined up how I wanted, I used super glue to glue the two together…
I just squeezed the two together for a bit, then let them dry. It worked perfectly!
To make the banner, I used 22 gauge galvanized wire…
And wove the wire through the lace…
With that, it was done!
I couldn’t decide where to put it first, so it went into the dining room…
Then I moved it to our living room shelves…
And then it went into the breakfast nook…
I absolutely love it!
And that lace metal completes me…
I’m so excited to use it for Christmas decorating… and I can’t wait to add a few letters to it!
Until next time… You can find me on Pinterest, Facebook & Twitter!

This is so fun and unique, Shayna! I love it! We did a galvanized back splash in our old house and I loved it but you are right – this stuff is sharp!! I would have to hang this out of the way of my boys but I have just the doorway for that! Pinning and thanks for sharing! xo
THANK YOU so much! I’m so happy you like it! 😀
