Burlap and Tin Can Vase Garland
While I love decorating for Autumn and the Fall season, inside I secretly try to suck-up every tiny bit of Summer there is left. I’m never quite ready for the changing of the season because our Summers are so sweet… and always seem just a little too short.
So while I ease into the transition, I’ve got my windows thrown open letting the beautiful days come inside! Most years, I’m even running to the garden department to buy a few more flowers to enjoy into October. This year I was a little preoccupied with the flooring install, so my flowers were much ignored. Which has actually eaten at me because I really look forward to the Summertime when they flourish. I so enjoy them! We just didn’t have room on the sun deck for them and the makeshift work shop too. If you’ve been reading me for any time, you know I don’t dare put them on the lower deck… they would be insta deer buffet. lol.
We had the whole family stop by just last week.
It’s hard to be angry at something that eats your Hydrangeas when they are this cute!
(And when you feed them apples… you can’t be angry that they keep coming around either)
So, back to the upcoming Fall season… I shared my first Fall craft of the year when I showed you

Now I want to share this simple tin can garland with you!
You know I love my cheap & easy can crafts.
I’d been day dreaming about this one in my head for a bit… I actually meant to make it for Spring.
Whoops. I’m only a few seasons behind. {winks}
But I’m glad I didn’t because the burlap is perfect for Fall.
You will need:
- Tin cans
- Fabric – I used burlap
- Light gauge wire – A sturdy twine could work too
- Wire cutters or scissors
- Glue gun
- Drill and bit OR hammer and big nail
- Flowers!
Tin Can Garland Instructions:
- Start with clean dry cans – Tip: I run mine through the dish washer – Pop top soup cans work really well for crafting because there are no rough edges
- Make your holes first – About 1/4 inch from the lip – One on each side of the can – You can use a drill and a metal bit or use a hammer and a large size nail to puncture the can – Make sure to do either on a work surface – I did mine with a nail and hammer – Super simple!
- Lay your fabric out – Use the can size as your guide – Cut to width and length needed – I cut mine with a little excess to flip over the top – See photo below
- Lay your fabric out and place your can on it – Align fabric – Run a line of glue from the bottom of the can to the top of the can – Apply gentle pressure and press your fabric onto the glue strip – Wrap fabric around can – Apply another bead of glue – Secure fabric by pressing down
- Repeat to as many cans as you desire for your garland, I used four cans total
- String your wire or twine between the cans and secure by pulling through and twisting or with a knot
- Hang where desired
- Fill with water after they are in place and add and arrange flowers
- Enjoy!
I’m getting back in the regular bloggy groove since we mostly have the house put back together now. I’m a little bit in love with the floors and so ridiculously proud of the job my hubby did putting them in. We were busy bees over the Labor Day holiday weekend and we’ve just got the fireplace surround to finish now. I should be able to do a proper reveal very soon! Love the burlap cans! So cute! I helped my husband installing wood floors in our first home….Yes it was a job but it really paid off in the long run!
I bet they were beautiful! This has a payoff at the end for sure! Just wrapping the fireplace hearth is left, then we are done. So far I completely love them!!! It’s such a huge improvement after 2 different flooring styles, one being tacky carpet.

The garland is lovely with the light colours. It would also be pretty in the springtime, perhaps with crocuses or miniature tulips. I won’t rush through the seasons, though. Autumn is starting to creep in and I have the changing leaves and hot apple cider to look forward to later this month and next.
