Fun with Polka Dots in the Kitchen {a cottage update}
Gold Metallic Polka Dots? Why not!
If you follow me on instagram, you know the chalk stenciled design in the kitchen is no longer.
Gasp!
I know, I’m sorry! I’m so glad you liked it… but I see it every single day and I was ready for something new. It lasted a whole year, so really, you should be proud of me. I went back in my archives to see when I did it and found the date I posted it was March 25th.

It’s like I’ve got an internal countdown clock or something, I swear! Some things definitely have a shelf life and this was one of those things. Loved it when I did it, liked it for a long time (in my time measurements), grew tired of it… it’s days were numbered. Executed.
Next!
So, I cleared everything away and ditched the chalk stenciled design. I wiped down the chalkboard surface thoroughly with a damp rag a few times, then looked at my black canvas.
… until I saw spots.
Sometime last Fall, gold started growing on me. Not just the color gold. But metallic gold. It’s got to have some shine. I’m not talking brass either, but soft, warm, glowing gold.
So I broke out the gold metallic craft paint and got my P-dot party started. It only took 15 minutes. (I love a quickie!) You know me, cheap & easy is my favorite.
To See Spots of Your Own:
-
Put paint on a paper plate or plastic lid, spread to make an even layer.
-
Dip the bottom of a Tylenol bottle in paint. (or medication of choice. lol. hey, it worked)
Don’t forget, you can test a few options to find the right shape, size and look you desire.
-
With even pressure, apply to wall.
-
Re Dip and apply to wall.
-
Repeat as necessary for the desired number of polka dots.
-
Fill in circles with craft brush and paint.
-
Check out your new p-dots and grin like an idiot because they are so stinking cute.
Now comes the fun part. Decorating with the playful new back drop!
I still have a few big projects in the works, but I had to take time for a pinch of fun. Polka dots fit the bill. I’ll be sharing Austin’s room makeover progress this coming week. Plus, plans for the next project we’ve got in the works!
Winter is over and we are ready to get the tools out again. Yay!!!!

I am loving gold-everything lately! 🙂 I like how you have fun with your cabinetry!
Sparkling just like you my friend! Love the dots!
They are FUN. I will say that :)))
Love the gold dots! I change things up pretty often too – when I find the time! Seems like more and more I have in mind changes I want to make and I stay too busy with business stuff to get at it!
Gold is such a great accent these days!
Oh I hear that one! Cheers to being busy, I guess the alternative is not that great.
Just darling Shannon!
Thanks Debbie. You know I like my sparkle (:
I like this!!! I especially love the use of a tylenol bottle! Genius!!!~~Ang
It won after a few failed trial dots on a piece of cardboard!!
Darn cute idea! I just got some gold metallic paint yesterday for a few projects around here. I find it funny that I am lovin’ this color again 🙂
Blessings,
Linda
Me too. I was always a silver girl. It snuck up on me. For sure!!
Loving the gold polka dots! Every time I write polka – I giggle!
Have a great weekend 🙂
Debbie
You too sweetie. Fighting some crud, working on a project and trying not to fall over! Ugh xo – Shan
I love it! and I LOVE that you used a tylenol bottle…(since I often use a shoe as a hammer and a butter knife as a screwdriver) LOL
So cute as always!
Hugs
Karin
I tried a few things… the rounded bottom was the ticket, and just the right size (: Yay! Hugs to you!! Shan
