It all started with a cake plate.
(doesn’t it always?)
A marble cake plate.
… with a weathered wood base.
I was hooked.
I’m a marble lover.
Without a marble lovers budget!
When I saw this CUTIE at HomeGoods for, wait for it….
$14.99. Not even kidding.
I was totally tickled.
I only bought a few little things that day, but the cake plate was my big prize. The price only made it sweeter.
I came home and fiddled, fluffed & played. I had everything else, including the cloche I stole off a glittery Christmas putz house I got several years ago. You gotta work hard in this house. I demand multi-tasking!
You might notice something new & shiny on the chalky paint table I made over? I added some gold tacks. Just a few. I’m feeling it out.
I got the idea from the this table (on the right) with the tiny silver studs. I ran across it for sale on a site for a few hundred dollars. I tried really hard to find it again, but it was sold out and gone… so similar though right!? We made our first large size version modeled after the side table size we started making last Summer. I love how versatile this size is! Sort of console table / entry table /sofa table or ??? Just a great multi-use piece!
As you might notice, my big pieces are pretty locked-in, so changing out my occasional tables and such lets me play around and keep things feeling fresh. Instead of musical chairs, it’s musical tables here! And yes, pillows. Always with the pillows too. You know I loooove my pillows.
I’m sure you’ll recognize the iron table. I’ve actually made this table over a few times. You can see version one here & version two here.
I had fun decorating the newly white wood table, and added the matte metallic bells… the brassy planter and the Abalone shell just like my Grandmas.
There is a ton of driftwood to be found on the coastline here in Oregon and I popped some in my aqua wood bowl.
Now, I have to admit, I didn’t get mine from the beach. You know… you aren’t supposed to remove things like starfish, shells, driftwood, etc… because it can affect the delicate eco-systems. And I like to follow the law. And respect nature. So I bought mine. And I pretend someone didn’t take it off a beach somewhere. Which is the lesser of two evils? I don’t know!
Dear Lord, I could never write a book… it would be about subject X and I would end up on purple.
Anyhow, my ill gotten driftwood and the textures feel so good. It all just evokes those Summer feelings of soft breezes, the windows thrown open, the smell of our wild rose and the tang of salt in the air.
I kept it relatively simple.
It feels perfect to me, just like this!
The coffee table is hosting my giant AQUA lantern now.
This thing is so fun!!
I got it at HomeGoods (on that shopping trip with my mom) and I think it’s going to be blast to decorate with in the coming years. I plan to tweak the top grey portion. I definitely need to tszuj it up a little!!
I don’t have the inside figured out yet… too many possibilities. For now I did a big pillar, the candle and a starfish and called it good!! Paired with some faux branches it really is a show off indoors, but I can’t wait to use it outside when we have BBQ’s this Summer.
I’m so glad I picked up these blooms! We don’t have a lot of resources to pick up inexpensive flowers, like Costco and Trader Joe’s… so these are my cheater version.
So happy to pop in and catch-up a bit.
It’s been like this for weeks, but sometimes I make changes and take pictures… and then I don’t blog about it right away.
Sooooo I figured I better share it quick, because I plan to get my red, white & blue on shortly!!
You guys will be thinking I’m crazy.
Well, more crazy than usual.
– Are you guys in SUMMER mode yet?
Our season is short lived so I embrace it in a bear hug here. I go super-Summer and then nuts for the Fourth of July.
On a more personal note, Austin graduates this Friday. I know. I know. I’m in denial. I really am. Once we get through that, things will settle down and I’ll be back to a more regular schedule. I have so much to share and catch-up with you guys about!! Like:

.. Hello Shannon … I love your little gold tacks they ‘finish’ the table beautifully…. the table looked great the way it was , but the tacks add pizazz.. really like your marble cake plate and the way you have used it here… beautiful….
Hugs … Barb xxx
Thanks Barbara!! The tacks are fun huh? I know I’m going to love that cake stand for a very long time!! I’ve got a few I’ve had for years & years and they are always out somewhere. This is a good addition 😉
Hi Shannon,
Your living room is incredibly cozy while still being bright and refreshing. I love it. It could one day be a great little B & B. 🙂
Olivia

It’s beautiful! It gives me ideas for the shelf I hope to build over the toilet in the master bath (current project).I “GET” to go to Home Goods on Friday (I HOPE)… it’s fast becoming my “go-to” fun place for de-stressing! (And less than 12 miles away… win, win!)
