WOOD garden path and walkway ideas:
DIY wood garden pathway by Funky Junk Interiors
The DIY garden path above, made with wood, is a perfect example of creating something unique and original! The builders used stencils on select boards to make the pathway reflect her personal style.
I stumbled across some pretty cool wood products to make creating a wood path or walkway a lot easier!
-
First, is this 8 foot pre-made wooden pathway [click here] that rolls right out! Perfect for a temporary/seasonal need or a quick fix.
-
And I also found these real wood click & lock deck/paver products [click here]. They come in several finishes and are really nice looking. I bet they’d be super for the deck of an outdoor shower.

STONE garden path and walkway ideas:
New England Home
A STONE GARDEN PATH is a walkway comprised of large flat stones laid in grass, rock, gravel or mulch and has spaces/voids/joints between the pieces that are filled by the larger surface material of (grass, rock, gravel or mulch).
-
This example is bluestone, with crushed granite filling in the joints.
-
This example is a front walkway, and the joints were filled with Creeping Thyme. (which is beautiful, and also deer resistant.)
-
And this version was also filled with plantings, though I’m unsure of the variety, though I think it may be Woolly Thyme in lavender. Purple and white blooms are favorites of mine, so I’m very drawn to the color, in case you hadn’t gathered that.
-
In case your pathway needs steps… what a lovely use of Creeping Thyme.
PEA GRAVEL garden path and walkway ideas:
From formal, to wild and free… one of my absolute favorite looks is a pea gravel path! Meandering through a garden, or perhaps leading to a lake or pond… they hold such a whimsical quality for me, and hint at a little bit of magic. It’s something I’ve always loved, but alas, we don’t have the right setting for it on our property. There are just too, too many pine needles here and it would be quickly overrun with them.

BRICK garden paths and walkways ideas:
-
Holly used bricks salvaged and collected piece by piece from another site, traded wine for the amazing rope edging (which I love!) and then used sand for the grouting. It was 100% DIY and lots of hard work on her part. I love her super-charming results!
I so wish I had pictures of our California house I could share with you! My dad and I designed the entire backyard—from a bare dirt lot, to completion. We had a beautiful used brick patio (in a herringbone pattern) running the length of the house, topped with a white wood patio cover my dad custom designed. Feeding of that, there was a garden path going to a pergola, and another going to a firepit and sitting wall. My dad installed everything but our spa. We picked out and planted every single living thing—from the plants, shrubs, flowers and trees, down to the sod. The garden flowers were primarily white, with bursts of vibrant & deep purples. It was so peaceful, with lovely landscape lighting throughout that made it easy to enjoy, no matter the hour. The brick was so warm and lovely, and added so much charm to our new-build home. My dad put his heart into every little detail. It was so beautiful, and it made it so extra hard to leave.
It was pre cell phone days… and I know I took photos with a “real camera” that took film (can you imagine!?) but I don’t know where they are now. If they ever turn up I promise to share them with you!
PAVER garden path and walkway ideas:
Our paver path between the main house and The Little Cottage
OUR PAVER PATH WALKWAY is almost 3 years old now, and we have been incredibly happy with it since day one! It smoothly and safely connects the sloped walk from main house to The Little Cottage. Most of you know we are big fans of DIY here at Fox Hollow Cottage! Whenever we have the skill level and tools to do so, we try to take on our home improvement projects ourselves, both inside & out. Sometimes, it’s smarter to hand over a project to someone else though—this was one of those times. We had a handful of projects going on already, and Jim was busy installing our brick wall. We were also heading into Winter, so it was a matter of get it done now or wait another year for outdoor project weather to come along again. The idea of this paver path being installed quickly, by an experienced company was the right choice.
Little Secret: I actually paid to have this path laid instead of attending the Better Homes & Gardens Style Maker event that year. It was that much of a priority for me.
In typical me fashion. I want one of everything. There is something to love about all these choices. Outdoors, we have plans to add another paver path connecting the main house to the shop and we need to address the hard and soft scape out front. Our curb appeal is lacking big time since we put all our attention out back the last 2 years. But after spending much of our DIY time & budget outdoors installing the new deck & pergola, and replacing two of our arbor/pergolas, (plus all the general maintenance that needs to happen outside when the weather is prime). We are hoping to start a big indoor project soon. I don’t want to jinx it just yet. Crossing my fingers, and I’ll let you know if things start moving forward!!!! xo Shan

Shannon it is so good to hear from you. That backyard you did with your Dad sounds Heavenly. Would love to see it. Crazily it sounds very similar to what I want to do here at our new home. ????
Love all of these. Something about hardscape that grab my attention. Especially pebble stone, flagstone,. brick,.. well I guess all the things. LOL

We installed the paver walkway in our former home, a split path surrounded by palm trees, up lighting and a rope walkway. On paper it seemed like a cake-walk until the 18 wheeler flat bed delivery truck showed up with about 15+ full pallets of brick and stone lol. But we dug right in and the end result was gorgeous!
Your path looks beautiful and safe!!
Shannon Fox says
I can visualize that! Both the end result…and the delivery. LOL
When the truck delivered all the lumber for our deck and pergola on a flat bed and slowly and carefully “dumped” it. Oh my!
The path was a REAL blessing when I needed a walker after my knee replacement. And it’s a blessing every day, that gravel was brutal on my knees.

I like your blog but wish you would change the title instead of continually saying “ hey foxy friend I have something new to share.“ A brief note of what is in the content would be great.

Hello 🙂
That’s all back-end stuff… unfortunately it’s auto generated so I’d have to go into a site separate from where I write and change it manually every time I made a new post.
I’ll see what I can do! Thanks for letting me know.

Love all these options – pathways add so much to the landscape. Thank you for sharing!

Hi Genelle 🙂
I agree. They really do add soooo much.
We can pick any material (more on the solid side) for our front when we re-do it.
I’ll have too many choices because I love something about everything!
