New Year’s Eve Diy Decorating Ideas

I know you don’t know this about me, but I have always wanted to frame my front door with lights! Like always. Just one of those little things that I’ve never gotten around to trying, because I didn’t want to figure out how to do it without putting 947 holes in the trim on my house. Now, thanks to Command brand outdoor hooks from 3M, we are rocking some sparkly white light goodness! Minus 947 holes.

Can I get a “Woo Hoo?”

Okay. How about a little “yay”?

We are hosting a New Year’s Eve party, so even though Christmas is over, this will be a festive way to greet our guests and set the tone for the night with a pretty, sparkly white light welcome!

The simple white lights look great with our snowflakes and icicles and the door looks so pretty framed out. Just like I knew it would. I love it!!

We used the Command hook light clips. We applied them according to the directions on back, let them sit an hour, came back and slipped the lights right in.

(Well, I let them sit an hour after the first time, when I let them sit about 10 minutes. hehe. All but one actually set and stayed, but I did have to reapply one. which was totally this Miss I don’t want to wait pants fault.)

Did you know there is a Command line specifically for the outdoors now? Like rated from -20* all the way up to 125*. We definitely fall somewhere in the middle being in the Pacific North West. We get a lot of wet and damp. They are working like a dream so far!

I will say I was jazzed to be able to put the lights up with no damage, especially since I just spent last weekend re painting all the trim and the front door.

Speaking of the front door… I picked a black wreath hanger hook to hang the Happy New Year art I made to adorn the door. No extra holes, can’t even see it, and the decoration is hanging exactly where I needed it too. Bam. More awesomeness.

To make the Happy New Year door art: First paint a 8 x 10 canvas with metallic gold craft paint. Let dry. Paint Happy New Year in black paint. I penciled mine on in my printed writing and painted over it. Let dry. Glue gun some silver tinsel garland around the frame. Add ribbon and tinsel as a hanger. I knotted mine together and used my glue gun to adhere to the back. Add bow. Enjoy (:

I can see a lot more fun happening out front.

Cause you know why?

They make clear ones for the windows as well. Genius.

You can hardly see them until you get right up on them.

They just disappear.

I really wanted to try the clear ones out so I just sort of threw together a shooting star sort of decoration with some Dollar Tree gold glitter stars, white tulle, sheer black ribbon and silver metallic ribbon. I need a little window decorating practice for sure. But it’s shimmery and that says New Year’s Eve to me so it’ll do! I added a few gold stars to the silver trees in the planters as well.

I bet some of the stores will have these on after-Christmas sale. I’m going to grab a few more because I think I’m going to put lights all around our french doors in back too! White lights are year round right? I know I love them in the Summer just as much. They are just so magical.
