Dream Furniture Cottage Living Room Reveal
Today I get to invite you into my home to share my living room reveal with you, and my dream furniture! Something I’ve wanted for literally 18 years. Eighteen years. That’s the time in which you could grow a human, and get them through school, and into legally official adulthood!
Eighteen full and complete years of longing for the simplicity of white slip-covered furniture. I went with family friendly furniture at our California house and next, a super practical, giant tan sectional that even had a hide-a-bed and a recliner at each end. Lastly, many of you were familiar with my pinky-beige sofa and chair and a half that I sold over a year ago.
That was something I’ve never done before. I leapt, without a net. I didn’t have furniture on order, nothing was arriving in 6-8 weeks… I didn’t even have a new set picked out that was my goal! I decided to just… go for it and see what happened. That is so completely out of character for me. Normally I am a big-time planner for those larger purchases and decisions.
Instead, I set my money aside from selling some furniture that wasn’t working, and I went about pouring over the internet looking for “the one”. I knew I wanted pure white, I wanted deep & comfy, and I wanted to be able to afford it! I scoured 100’s of reviews and photos that actual costumers submitted before I finally settled on what I felt was “the one” — the Ava, from Grandin Road.
I kind of had a bit of a furniture crush, and I kept going back to look at it again and again. Jim had watched me search and scour for months and months… and he finally said, “if you like that one, just order a set already and be done with it”. But I was nervous to buy a sofa & chair I had never sat in online.
Until… one day in December, when I popped in to look and my Ava was one sale. For 50% off. So I bought the chair and half figuring it would be a great way to see what I thought, for much less of an investment. If I loved it, I’d grab the sofa… at some point. Again, I wasn’t stressing about it. Which is so not me at all!
Well love her I did! At the time, I had our farm table separating the TV area with my Ava chair, and the fireplace area with my little tufted chairs. I was totally content. You can see where I started [click here] and my set-up with only the Ava chair and a half [click here] if you want to get a sense of the timeline. I was enjoying frequent fires, and my new chair was perfect for TV snuggling! We’ve got a cozy den downstairs that Jimmy I watch movies in, so the upstairs is basically my domain and seating for one wasn’t a big problem in the short term.
JUST FOR FUN, I TRIED THE OTTOMAN IN PLACE OF THE COFFEE TABLE
As luck would have it, my purchase of the Ava chair and a half led to the opportunity to partner with Grandin Road! I had shared her arrival and un-boxing on Instagram, and she was in all my holiday posts. I am so thankful for the opportunity to partner with Grandin Road, and for their generous gift of the Ava sofa, as well as some of the new Spring pieces!
Which do your prefer? I’m kind of loving the ottoman option.
I sort of shimmied the chair and a half into the corner, opening things up a bit, and I placed the sofa table floating in between the farm table and the living room. It delineates the space, yet it’s really light and airy feeling.
The whole house feels refreshed and ready for Spring!
And I’m so dang excited about having my dream furniture, in WHITE. My favorite, goes with anything color. Now I can change pillows, accessories and do any decor I want, without having to think about undertones, and wondering if it’ll look okay. It’s so freeing, and my living room feels bigger and brighter and… just perfect. It’s exactly everything I’ve wanted for so very long!
— For those of you that love the shape and style of my Ava pieces, but white isn’t for you… the Ava also comes in: Fawn, Slate and Navy! You can also but the slipcovers separate as well.
Between having a dining room chandelier installed after so many year [details here], putting up the new $30 shiplap above the fireplace [details here]… the brick accent wall, and the pantry [see the before & after here]. I can’t can’t even tell you how fortunate I feel. It’s taken a long time be able to do a lot of our projects. This poor little house was so very needy, and many of the things we had to do were really expensive, but were not at all pretty or exciting.
I’m just so dang thankful for this season in our life, sometimes I get a little nervous that things are too good. Anyone else feel like that sometimes? Whew… okay enough of that. Thanks so much, as ALWAYS for visiting with me and sharing in my families life. xo Shan

I love the ottoman as your coffee table but I think it would look better with a super large wooden tray on top instead of the throw. The throw looked lovely on the arm of the sofa, it made it very inviting. The room is lovely.
