Wythe Blue Aqua Front Door
I knew the minute I finished painting my door with my custom-mixed color, it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. I wasn’t surprised. I didn’t expect perfection from a Frankenstein mix I whipped up at 8:30 on a Sunday night. I was glad I gave it a shot though, because I really wanted to indulge my fancy for an aqua door and I felt like I needed to do it right then.
I decided to live with it a bit and see if it grew on me.
I decorated and celebrated Spring. You can see that look here.
About 3 weeks later, I embraced the blue and brought in more!
Changing out accessories and curtains… you can see that look here.
But it was all getting away from me, and wasn’t really what I wanted.
The color was too much, and it wasn’t the right shade.
It didn’t allow me the freedom to shift things around and enjoy other colors, without clashing. So I ran over to my Ben Moore store, and bought myself some Wythe Blue.
Meet My New Improved Aqua Door
This is what I wanted originally.
A deeper base, less bright… and more green.
The other door was so blue, that most of my aqua’s clashed with it. This is more muted, and because my house is so open, it plays much better with my other color and shade whims.
When my mom was here, she told me she loved the blue paisley panels I had hung, so I took them down and sent them home with her.
I moved the blue glass lamp into the living room, and it’s great in there.
I prefer these neutral, nubby linen curtains that I added in their place.
They mimic the tones in my large furnishings, and my rugs.
The space flows much better now.
While I do like color, I’m finding that I like it… a certain way.
Balanced, sprinkled around with restraint, and more subtle. The new door color offers enough impact for me.
All the bold color in the curtains as well, was just too much.
I actually re-painted the door about 2 months ago, but just hadn’t found a spare moment to share it with you. I had a few deadlines, and then The Little Cottage living room reveal [I’d love to share that with you – click here], and next thing I knew it was time to head to Vermont!
I’ll be working on that this weekend, and sharing it with you on Monday.
I’m really happy with the Wythe Blue, it’s from Benjamin Moore.
It’s such a pretty blend between aqua & turquoise.
I loved it in late Spring, and it’s been beautiful for Summertime.
I fluffed the mantel a bit, but my twinkle lights stayed put.
I added this mirror, and just set it in front of a pallet background.
I love leaning and layering. It’s so easy to change things out that way!
I’m not sure what Fall & Winter will bring as far as color schemes and such. I’ve decorated pretty classic the last few years.
Maybe it’s time for something new this time?
I love the trans-formative power of paint, and how easy it is to change the look, feel and vibe of your home with it. From little projects like an interior door, to big ones like whole rooms using bold colors. Don’t be afraid to step out of the beige box.
You can start small, or try samples, but just try.
I love changing my interior front door color! I have had such fun trying different colors.
It only takes about 30 minutes to paint each side of a door

Prefer the first color for me. Loved the original pics and accessories together, especially the curtains. but like I always say you have to do what you like not me. However, you post it to get other peoples opinions.

Appreciate your feedback. It’s okay to like the before. I liked it at some point too. LOL. But, I could see it getting away from me getting locked into the too-blue and not being versatile enough. Also, the door looked better in pictures, if that makes sense. I actually like the way it photographed better, and the curtains as well… but in real life, I didn’t – So I was true myself and my heart and changed, knowing that the photo-op was probably better the other way. I’m not always the smarted blogger. haha.

Hi, just wondering what shade of white your walls are painted? Thanks!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
It’s GLIDDEN, straight out of the can WHITE. Untinted. Of the zillion samples I got, go figure? lol

I Love your new Wythe Blue door! it is a beautiful shade and compliments the other blues in the room. I think it is my new favorite color!

Thanks Debbi, I like it so much 🙂 It was the Ben Moore color of the year, several years ago.
I liked it immediately 🙂

Shannon–
I absolutely LOVE the revamped door color! The hues and shades of blue you’ve sprinkled amongst the neutrals are just gorgeous!! Love those nubby drape panels!! As always–love it!!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I like it so much better! The other shade wasn’t right.. and it really was getting away from me.
So glad I pulled back and did a do-over 😉 Happy Summer!!

I do love the new color – tones of blue, green, and almost gray so you can do a lot with accessories.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
Exactly! It’s so much more versatile, even being in the aqua family still.
Happy Summer 🙂

Oh my goodness! This is so beautiful! You have such a talent for picking colors and items. I bet it is a great feeling to walk into this room to relax. I only wish I had a bit of your talent. Thank you for sharing.
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
You are so kind, since it’s take two 😉 haha. I shared that because I don’t want anyone to be afraid to try. I’m not a professional by any means.
I always advocate using samples – And I occasionally return things that I bring home to see if they work. And that is okay. Practice in decorating is like anything else, you do get better! My years of blogging have given me the opportunity to grow and improve. You can do it too 🙂

I love the door color change! A little more subtle but distinctive. Where did you find the throw on your large chaur/love seat? It is so pretty!
Shannon at Fox Hollow Cottage says
I got that at HomeGoods, and very recently. This season. I love the range of blues and aquas. Hope you can find one too 🙂
